Sale would generate income to federal government, enabling it to cut back into the national federal deficit. In addition, the land sale to homeowners would generate property sales tax to communities and counties on property previously non taxable.

Large rivers were never meant to stay in one place and the results of this hubris is illustrated in the floods of 2011 and in the Katrina disaster.
Rather than use expensive demolition equipment to remove outdated damns and levies, allow Mother Nature's own little home wreckers to do the job. Send a bunch of Nutrias and water rats to the site to dig, burrow and munch their way through outdated berms and power cords. Wow, what a savings!
To water lawns and landscapes, use of recycled or grey water will save money for the government.
