Eliminate End of Year Spending

Eliminate End of year spending. Allow money to cross fiscal years. This would eliminate the need to do new Purchase orders every October 1 for contracts from the previous years. If money can flow across the FY then it has the ability to save the government time, money and energy. There should be an incentive to return any unused portion of an agencies budget to the treasury.

Reduction and Modernization

I propose that our govt move into a new era where paper decisionmaking is a thing of the past. Technology exists where secure signatures and sharing networks can bring our offices up to the year 2011. We can reduce the burden on our forests and recycling centers! We can reduce the time it takes to get a document from one decisionmaker to another by using software that allows all decisionmakers to view and sign document... more »

UNIFORM ALLOWANCE AND RECYCLING

At the end of every year, your uniform allowance becomes use or lose.

Minimize the allowance slightly and allow for rollover of unused moneys, and people would feel less compelled to spend it, and may even promote the saving of unused moneys.

Also implement uniform recycling.

I once tried to return a bunch of old uniforms, that no longer fit, or were unused because they weren't the right size. I was not looking for... more »

Create Agile Teams at Division/Branch Level

A key component to the success of an Agile Team is positional authority, and full mandatory cooperation with Agile Team members. Agile Team requests, emails, phone calls, meetings, etc. are given top priority by direction of the appropriate Senior Leadership. Agile Team members are basically acting proxies for the Senior Leadership of the scope/area of concern. Agile Team members may have a primary job/responsibility... more »

Claims Adjuster/Clerk

The VA is paying out millions, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars to private dialysis facilities every year. The Dallas VA dialysis unit does not even run 24/7. The new Fort Worth facility just opened last year and they did not even put a diaylsis unit there. Many private dialysis companies run 24/7 and they tell you when and where to show up for treatment. The VA doesn't do that. If the VA were allowed to update staff... more »

Environmental Regulations for All Public Schools

Dear Mr. President and Mr. Vice President:

Congratulations for opening this important dialogue!

As a former MA & GA Teacher, and now a current DC Public School Teacher, I have been appalled at the enormous waste generated by our public schools, nation-wide.
I have worked with my principal for 2 years, trying to get a simple recycling program started in our building. We asked the Mayor's office, the DOE, and even private... more »

Fleet Vehicles

Within the U.S. Border Patrol, we use an array of service vehicles. For the most part we use Ford F-250's and Chevy Tahoe's. I have spoken with many other Patrol Agents and also station mechanics. We are all of the same opinion that it just does not make practical sense to keep on using such a large number of F-250's. The SUV's, whether it be a Chevy Tahoe or a Ford Explorer, get better gas mileage, are far superior... more »

Implement BVAMC Beneficiary Travel Tool Nationally

Early in July I developed a beneficiary travel tool to expedite a task for myself and a colleague in calculating copious amounts of information on Beneficiary Travel mileage. Upon utilizing this tool, it became evident this simple tool could be used by other VA staff to more accurately complete beneficiary travel vouchers. The tool is a simple web based interface that tells the mileage between a Veteran’s residency... more »
