General Services Administration

A simple idea: remind people to use revolving doors

Our agency's building has revolving doors, but they're slow (for some reason, they operate automatically), and impatient people frequently avoid them and use the conventional automatic doors that are next to the revolving ones. These conventional doors are primarily intended to be used by people with disabilities, but I've seen entire groups of ten, twelve, or more people head through one of the conventional doors en... more »

No more portraits at taxpayer expense

This idea applies to ALL federal agencies. Almost every federal office and federal building I visit has multiple framed pictures of the President and Vice President. There are also framed portraits of other agency officials. This practice should be discontinued because it is an unnecessary, frivolous expense.

REFORM CONGRESS

A lot of boys and girls grow up and want to serve their country. These children see their parents working hard, paying their bills, being honest, and respecting each other. When some of these children grow up, they decide that they want to run for political office. Some of these big children get elected to the Congress in Washington DC.

WHAT HAPPENS??? A lot of these big children forget the importance of paying their... more »

UNEMPLOYMENT = COMMUNITY SERVICE

If we are going to pay people who are unemployed, why don't we get some work out of them!? If nothing else, maybe there can be a minimum amount of community service required to collect these benifits! Just think of all the community projects that could be accomplished by all these millions of people! They would still have more than enough time to search for new jobs, and it might even incintivise some of the people that... more »

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are... more »

Eliminate end of contract spend down

Ways to encourage saving money from being spent at end of contract or end of fiscal year:
1. Allow for contract extensions based on funds remaining. This will encourage the funds to be used as intended rather than wasted uselessly.
2. Financial incentives for funds saved at end of contract. Similar to bonus policies in some private corporations: pay out a percentage of the money saved (with a reasonable cap) to all employees... more »

Efficient Security Protocol saves $900 Million annually

Wasted productivity is a large but avoidable expense. Our current security systems serve a critical purpose, but could be more time efficient. This proposal would avoid losing more than $900 million annually of currently lost productivity while preserving security.

Proposal: Create streamlined security software that allows one to stay signed in securely to the network and to password protected programs and avoid automatic... more »

What happened to taking pride in products, service you provide?

It would be nice if..... The public sector saw the Government as we really are. We are good workers who take pride in our work and service we provide. I have experienced many 'large' companies who just don't perform as we do. They can not give good service, and/or are not accountable for their service or product. We pay around 200,000 people each pay period with a 99% accuracy. We have a help desk that logs problem areas... more »

Create a website titled "Pathetic Gov. spending"

Create a website titled "Pathetic Gov spending" where we can post real information of government waste we personally see each and everyday. Items such as buying chairs then throwing them out within a year, purchasing equipment that they can't get properly working so it sits collecting dust, only later to be thrown out. Etc.etc.

Bodyguards for low level officials.

A lot of low level officials/politicians waste money on bodyguards. People who make themselves look important with our tax dollars. From TMQ: Kurt Austin of Baltimore reports, "My mother works for a small suburban newspaper outside Baltimore. One of the reporters was doing a piece on State Comptroller Peter Franchot, so Franchot came for an interview. Before he stepped foot in the building, not one but two bodyguards... more »

END BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP!!

This is an idea from the 1800s that anyone born on United States soil is automatically a citizen. Other countries do not do this! You have to be born of a citizen to be a citizen. I think ending this practice will basically solve one of the biggest immigration issues we have. The practice of illegal imigrant coming here to have children (aka anchor babies) so that they can stay in this country. Just something to think... more »

Buy components not the whole module

Inside the Individual First Aide Kit (IFAK), is several modules with one being the "minor module". The minor module consists of about 12 component parts and 3-4 are shelf life controlled. Instead of replacing the whole minor module at a cost of $19.23 as is the current practice, why not just replace the expired shelf life components inside of it. At our installation alone, all 841 IFAK are unserviceable due to shelf... more »

Over-paying outside providers for Veteran care referred by VA

When the VA refers a Veteran to a community provider for care that can’t be performed at a local or nearby VA medical center (either the service can’t be provided within the VA in a timely manner, or the service is not available at the VA medical center), the VA staff already complete a referral and authorization process, including entering an authorization for a specific service in the VA’s claims processing and payment... more »
