Reduce Number of Different Computer Systems Data Collection

At this time DHS / TSA uses so many different computer systems to collect data i.e. iShare, SharePoint, Microsoft systems etc. My suggestion is to Collaborate the data collection via either Microsoft Access or Microsoft InfoPath. Besides the simplicity of one system for data collection it would also assist with the problem of "overwritten" data which would reduce rebuilding the same data over again.

TSA - Install gravity-power tray/bin returns at TSA checkpoints!

TSA should install gravity-powered tray/bin returns at its checkpoints.

Gravity-powered tray/bin returns are used at most European airports. The devices are usually just a pair of sloped rails. When a passenger finishes their screening, he/she simply places the bins he/she used on these sloped rails. The empty bins then slide, via gravity, back to the unsecured side of the checkpoint. The empty bins are then utilized... more »

Checking Bed Bug Registry before federal travel and other sites

One of the problems that has occurred when people are in travel status or in training is that they often find themselves vermin victims. In order to prevent bed bug bites a good thing to do would be to check the bed bug registry which has reports of hotels which have bed bug infestations as well as similar sites. We had a lady who was attacked by ants in a Dallas hotel while in a training class. Such efforts would reduce... more »

Rate management from the bottom up

It is rare that incompetent or abusive management are removed. Typically they are only changed or removed after they do something where the agency has to step in to clean up. If employees had the opportunity to report these individuals while the negative behavior is occurring, the agency would save itself from having to clean up after them later, and would make for a better work force. As an example, there were senior... more »

Reward the top 10 best ideas for each agency/military facility

Last year, there was an award for the top idea, why not the top 20 or 50? Or why not reward the top 10 people of each agency/military facility? A certificate is sufficient to give the message to employees that their observations and saving measure suggestions are welcomed. At the very least, there ought to be a list of the top 20 ideas per agency/military facility that was integrated. If an idea is applicable to all federal... more »

If contractors are needed hire them to train employees

The Department of the Air Force (as a good example) hires temporary contractors to work alongside FTE's. When the FTE's become proficient in the area of responsibility, the contract ends. This provides greater responsibility and opportunities for the FTE. The need for year to year contracting because of the lack of existing experience eventially gets significanlty reduced or eliminated.

Additionally, the FTE learns a... more »

Eliminate Mobile Units for TSA

There are several Coordination Centers across the country which have mobile units so they can keep the network going. Once you need to use the mobile unit, there has been a disaster, and disaster relief is already covered by FEMA. If the Coordination Center in Indianapolis needs to use their mobile unit, there is probably no Transportation traffic going anyway, so why would the TSA need them? That would save millions... more »

Re-align the current CBP, ICE and TSA

First, the United States Border Patrol should be re-aligned with ICE/HSI with Border Patrol taking care of Border activity and ICE/HSI focusing on interior. If these two entities were merged you could eliminate a massive amount of redundant middle-management and improve the communications immensely because it would be the same agency.
Second, Customs and TSA should be merged together. Both of their respective jobs... more »

Reduce/ Eliminate the National Debt - Not so Common Sense

My idea is for the "powers that be" to develop the ability for any monies left in the budget at the end of the year to be applied directly to the National Debt. Meaning that a local office can press a button and the monies go directly to the National Debt, they are not funneled back to parent agencies where the monies will be spent so they don't loose out the following year. Additionally I would like to add that being... more »

Allow Employee Clearance Vetting to Transfer Across Components

Within DHS we have multiple offices and components yet if you wish to transfer to a position within DHS you still need to undergo another suitability clearance. The vetting process (background & clearance eligibility review) costs the taxpayers a considerable amount of money – not only for the investigation but also for the possible idle time spent by employees awaiting clearance results. The Office of Personnel Management... more »

Stop the waste in TSA

Have an efficiency expert look at the waste in TSA and bring the abusive wasteful practices out into the light of day. Just one small example is the TSA practice of using government vehicles that are far bigger than needed and far bigger than other government agencies.

TSA recognize Security Clearances

Almost everyone in the Department of Defense are required to maintain a security clearance. Many have access to highly sensitive and classified information that must be safeguarded from the nation's enemies. Despite this, when we want to board and aircraft, we are treated like criminals. There must be a better way! I suggest TSA develop something similar to DoD's security clearance procedures that can be approved... more »

Allow TSA to Accept e-Tickets at the Security Checkpoint

Why do we all need paper tickets at the airport? All they do at the gate is scan a barcode and let you keep the darn things anyway! What a waste! Why not save everyone some money and just show our smartphones or iPads w/ a copy of our e-Ticket at the TSA checkpoint and at the gate. It's not like paper tickets have some huge security benefit...
