Send Training to Trainees, Not Vice Versa

I recently went to a training session at a cost of several thousand dollars per person, and the training was still in the development stages. I believe huge efficiencies and savings (both personal and monetarily) could have been realized if the quick reference guide, or DVD, or another method was simply sent to me with no personal travel involved. In this solitary case, millions of dollars could have been saved.

Staff Training

The shuttered former Federal Prison Camp Allenwood should be remodeled and turned into the BOP correctional academy. By having USP, FCi, and LSCI Allenwood right ehre and USP Lewisburg 20 minutes away, new BOP staff in Introduction to Correctional Techniques could receive enahnced training though a one-week addition to the ICT coursem of which will be spent in on-the-job training under field training officers at FCC... more »

Reduce Irrelevant Training! and get back to work.

We waste thousands of hours and dollars on training that is not relevant to the employee and not relevant to the program. Some of these classes are repeated over and over again, every year. Some examples of this are the Civil Rights and Internet Security classes. Having all employees take these classes every year is excessive and a waste of time. Other examples include ICS 100, ICS 700, ICS 800, HAZWOPER, and NARA... more »

How to optimize training & realize great savings!

On a small scale at NASA-JSC in the Mission Operations Directorate, we have come up with a new way to train & certify our Flight Controllers and Instructors. We performed a Training Needs Analysis, analyzing what tasks each person does for every Flight Controller and Instructor position. Then we determined what skills each person needed to accomplish those tasks followed by what knowledge is necessary to perform those... more »

Training

I was an instructor for the IRS last year. I was given an electronic course to "teach" on Identity Theft. I think we would all agree this is an important subject. I was allowed one hour for my students to work through an online course. The hour was not even enough time for them to read the material. It's no wonder these victims feel that we have no idea how to help them. It's because our employees are poorly prepared.... more »

Travel / Training

My suggestion is to save money on training that is unnecessary. This training is nothing more than just to have it on paper that the employee has attended the training. I have a Soil Conservationist who works for me here at USDA-NRCS. I am a District Conservationist who supervises this employee and assists him with his IDP. These are a couple of the trainings that he is req'd to attend. He started his employment... more »

Joint Training

An individual from another agency arranged a contracting training class for his staff. Being from a small office, he opened up available seating to other agencies within the area. Many agencies chose to participate and the class was filled. It was not only a cost saving decision, but it opened communication with other agencies. Since there are many training courses which overlap agencies, such as grants management,... more »

Local Agencies Access and Share Training

Create a website like this one where agencies can post available training that should permit any Federal employee to attend and/or access. Several Cybersecurity trainings are very expensive, yet different agencies provide the same training and bear individual costs of training. For example Houston, TX has several Federal Agencies and at least two Federal Buildings downtown. If agency heads would determine common areas... more »

Focus On Effective Online & On Site Training (LearnDAU)

Much of our training, for COTRs and Contracting Offiers, for example, is held in other parts of the city with vendors at a high cost per person. In order to cut costs, our agency has been hosting such training on site in the office, which was up to 90% less expensive for the training alone. It also keeps the staff in the office rather than putting them off site.

Similarly, online training and webinars can get the job... more »

All training in one place

Create & Maintain all training (mandatory & cbt) online in one central location rather than using multiple training programs that dont reflect data properly. An email reminder should be sent annually to the employee to notify them when the courses will expire soon & again when it is time to take the training. The program should upload completed training nightly to the command training database and send a report to the... more »
