Department of Veterans Affairs

I just wasted an hour looking for the submission I put in!

I just wasted an hour looking for the submission that I input several days ago because there is no search system to recall your message. I even used the keyword search. While looking through the pages, I saw hundreds of similar ideas. Instead of having that many ideas with a few “likes” If the site had a way to catalog similar ideas by keyword, the time wasted searching would be reduced, and a better count of feedback... more »

case management

Make every VBA service representative a rater that manages the case from start to finish. There is too much redundant work and not enough accountability in the VSR(veterans service representative) job. This is demonstrated by the fact that they review Service Treatment Records for screening etc and then the RVSR (rating VSR) does it again because their name is the one on the rating and they are held responsible for the... more »

Cut Agencies or Departments that submit no SAVE ideas

There is a huge list on the left side of this page with many agencies or departments that have NO ideas submitted under this SAVE program. Too much redundancy within the federal government. Time to eliminate agencies and departments that do (or don't do) the same thing that another agency or department.

Eliminate Numbered Air Forces (NAF) from AF Structure

RAND came out with a cost reduction study years ago, one finding being that the Air Force structure has a completely redundant layer, needed in the 1950-70s era that no longer serves the function it was created for. Under MAJor COMmands (MAJCOMS) headed by a 4 star, you have NAFs headed by a 2-3 star, then wings headed by a Colonel. Staff-wise, the NAFs is a mostly redundant link between the MAJCOM which wields real... more »

Consolidate Redundant Air Force Airlift Staff (AMD)

The current structure of the USAF in the warzone is based on a pre-internet model from an airlift perspective. The TACC at Scott AFB, in conjunction with US TRANSCOM, vet and assign transportation to all DoD users around the world. They are permanently staffed and have many thousands of dollars in programs, apps, etc. that allow them to manage hundreds of missions per day. Suddenly, in the AOR (Afghan/Iraq) a whole... more »

Combine Online Systems (Websites) Used by Federal Employees

We use over 10 separate online systems to take care of daily administrative tasks, and I believe that we should combine them all into one website, similar to how Google lets you switch between e-mail, calendar, documents, photos, etc. with a simple mouse click.

Combining all these systems into one system and hosting it on a centralized server would take advantage of economies of scale, greatly reducing the electricity,... more »

Security Clearance Reciprocity

For the love of all that's holy, every player doesn't need a vote in my trustworthiness. Designate a single entity - DSS, perhaps - that's the ONLY source of clearances in the DoD. All components - services, DIA, NGA, etc... - are investigated and adjudicated THE EXACT SAME WAY by the EXACT SAME PLACE. Poly's need to go away as well - they're nothing more than voodoo science being used as an interrogation tool in lieu... more »

Simplify Time and Attendance

Every Department has different rules and different systems for doing time and attendance. When I was with DoA my time sheet was simple, If I worked over 80 that was comp/overtime, and the software kept track. With the DoI I have to enter time into a excel spreadsheet and a software program, and do all the math myself being careful not violate any of the rules. I am on Maxiflex and travel a lot for my job. If I work... more »
