Every time I passed by the recycling bin next to the office printer, I often see piles of paper in there that are not documents from work but rather the pages with people’s name and the document’s title. This is such a waste of ink and paper because most people just throw them away. Many offices maintain office supplies and equipment, and have an excess of items that are often new and barely used. In many instances, these items go unused or shelves, and will, at some point, be discarded or donated. Yet, it is likely that someone within the Federal Government has need of them now. My position requires an average of 70 to 80 hours of work per week. The government recoups considerably more than the cost of paying my overtime by charging private industries an hourly rate for my essential services, and therefore there is no incentive for the government to be concerned about my life/work balance, safety and health, or inefficiencies of work due to excessively long hours. Guard contract evaluation / reduction. At my site in MD we eliminated one 24 x 7 x 52 guard position and reduced our annual costa by $370,000. I encourage the President to review and scrutiniz the guard force hours at all federal sites. Then have the resolve to eliminate all excess, and save big money instantly. This is an instant win, to help the gov't budget woes.
