The IRS requires approximately 65,000 employees who travel at least once per year to acquire and use a Citibank government credit card for official travel. Travel is funded through a centralized billing account (CBA) for employees with low credit scores or history of misuse. Overseas we are forced to use only US airline carriers or their equivalent for TDY. In Germany this means Miles and More partners of which United is a partner. These airlines are the most expensive. The inability to use other options cost the government to use more expensive flights. The ability to use other, cheaper airlines is not possible with this policy.
