It always amazes me that the Agents and supervisers get paid to move for a promotion. If they want the job, then they should pay their own way to that area for the job. CBP spends way too much in this area. I know for a fact, if an employee really wants the job, or wants to move to a specific area, they will pay for their own move if they have to. The savings in this are would be significant.

Resident inspectors at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are required to move at least every 7 years (that is at least 210 people moving every 2-7 yrs). A more restrained and thoughtful PCS and move cycle would achieve immediate and substantial cost savings. The military in particular has adopted the mentality that members 'have to' move every 2-3 years. Many commanders, senior staff or those selected for special programs are moved even more frequently. This not only costs the tax-payer many thousands of dollars per move in direct costs but many more in associated expenditures.... more »
