RESIDENT ALIEN QUALIFIED MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES (QMB)

Resident Aliens or Citizens petitioning for foreign born parents to be allowed into the USA should be required to maintain financial responsibility for their parents. Children will bring-in aged parents to local, state, and federal government agencies, namely SSA to file for QMB after the 5 year Medicare residency requirement is met but do not wish to pay for the benefit and then the working public takes on the burden... more »

Medicare Part A is not necessary if one has other coverage

Currently people are entitled to Medicare at age 65 even if they have converge elsewhere, Part A (Hospital insurance is expensive but they do not have to pay for it is the government that does). We should have people filing for Medicare ONLY if they have NO coverage at all and we should have Medicare earliest possibility at full retirement age. If they are covered by their employer or any sources regardless from where,... more »

Collective trimming

Think outside the box.

Please, cut all of the fat! There are many great ideas here, and if the government implemented just half of the ideas posted, NOT ONE OR TWO, then we would better our financial crisis. It's not a game to better your career to come up with the best idea, this is our country that is falling apart that we're trying to fix.

Everyone who that took the time to post something, knows and cares enough... more »

Look at the Revenue Stream

Most of the federal government's money comes from the following sources: (Individual) Income Tax (43%), Social Security & Medicare Taxes (42%), Corporate Tax (7%), Excise (Sin) Taxes (3%), and Other (5%). Look at how much individual's are taxed (income taxes, and some social security & medicare taxes), as compared to how much corporation's are taxed (maybe they are taxed on some of the social security and medicare taxes?).... more »

Veterans double dipping should stop

People who use the VA for healthcare who also have Tricare, Medicare, Medicaid and/or get care at military facilities are consuming large quantities of money and time that could be spent on people who depend exclusively from the VA for care. This should be better regulated, it should not happen. A lot of veterans have no other means of getting medical attention than the VA, but there are thousands that go to their outside... more »

Campaign Ads that help Social Security

Why not tax all campaign ads (or all campaign ads above some set limit), and have all proceeds go to support Social Security and Medicare. If the rich and elite can spend millions of dollars to get elected to a federal office than why can't some of these funds go to support those constituents they wish to represent. The more you spend on campaign ads (TV, radio, paper, etc.) the more you contribute.

Better yet, vary... more »

Create electronic medical record for each Medicare recipient

Create a record for each person as they enter medicare. Decrease payments to doctors, hospital, etc. that do not use the electronic records. Increase payments to providers who do. Payments may not immediately change greatly, but efficiencies in tracking and compensation should actually lower costs of overall program. Easier to find fraud/abuse in computerized systems too.

Mitigate Health Insurance Fraud by Requiring Photo on ID Card

Widespread medical insurance fraud negatively impacts the price of medical insurance for both federal employers and employees, and taxpayers in general.

One of the most pervasive forms of fraud is identity fraud; either with or without the permission of the medical plan holder. Very few health care providers ask for photo ID prior to treatment. There are more or less no controls in place to police this, which creates... more »

Expand Medicare coverage to Eye and Dental

Part a and Part B pay nothing toward eye or dental care. The low income recipients get suppliment coverage paid through block grants or go without coverage. The private insurance through state agencies comes at a high premium. Care after damage is done is high cost. Preventative care is proven to reduce costs, ask any HMO.

Enact Confict of Interest Laws for Medical Practioners

Federal employees are barred from investing in stocks, etc. where they have even the appearance of a conflict. Congress should enact similar laws for medical practitioners. They should be barred (legally) from accepting benefits from Pharmaceutical companies that may influence their prescribing practices. Many physicians are likely to prescribe high cost new drugs because of compensation from the drug industry. The high... more »

A Way to Stop Medicare Fraud:

THE PROBLEM: An estimated 20% of all Medicare claims are fraudulent. That’s $60 to $80 Billion annually. THE SOLUTION: Under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), banks and other financial institutions are required to report suspicious financial activity and large cash transactions to the Treasury Department. This data helps law enforcement go after financial criminals. This data is an under-utilized tool that should be used... more »
