cd requests for medical records from ssa

Currently SSA provides electronic and/or hard copies of files for representatives. These requests take time and use various field offices' resources in an inefficient manner. These requests should be either centralized much like medical records are (scanned in by one entity for the nation or areas) or accessible online via one time password given to the attorney rep. It is understandable that claimants wouldn't have... more »

Eliminate paper “authorization to disclose” form SSA 827

Eliminate the necessity for a paper “authorization to disclose information” form (SSA 827), by amending Section 223(d)(5) of Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 423(d)(5)) to: require a claimant’s sources (custodians) of information to respond to SSA's requests for records; deem that an official request from Social Security for medical, vocational rehabilitation, or educational records satisfies all legal requirements for... more »

Printing these voluminous records wastes much time, paper, ink, and storage space, and reading them in the file wastes time as well. These records are accessible on-line through CAPRI (for people with authorized access, which includes the claims... more »

These records are asked by patients to keep records for themselves or for another physician/facility where they may transfer care, etc.
Problems:
1. It is on paper, which can be easily lost, destroyed... more »

Share Medical Records Electronically

VA doesn't obtain medical records from DoD hospitals and medical facilities electronically. Additionally, VA will order tests that have already been done at a DoD medical facility. Sharing records and tests electronically saves time, money and paper. This should work both ways, i.e. VA to DoD facility and DoD facility to VA.
