HUD Consolidated Contact Center

HUD has dozens of contact centers collectively serving millions of public housing and low-income housing program stakeholders, but each contact center operates independently and without any overarching management, policy or oversight. Some contact centers are internal, with government and/or contractor personnel, while others are located off-site. Some utilize government telecommunications and/or IT systems. Some provide... more »

REDUCE GOVERNMENT WELFARE SPENDING!

Reduce government Welfare Spending.
Today, welfare spending is the largest item in the federal budget, standing at $888 out of the $3.6 trillion of the federal budget, that is nearly 25% of federal funds. I believe that instead of giving money to individuals who are not currently working, we should provide them with work in their communities in return for pay and benefits. Government Welfare spending is at an all time... more »

Time limitations on HUD Section 8 rent subsidies

Currently, there are no time limits on how long a tenant can receive rent subsidy through the HUD Section 8 program. My observation as one who owns rental property, is that the renters become complacent and actually demotivated to go and look for work. If they work more, their vouchers are cut. I believe the program should help those who need help, but only for a limited period of time. There must be some motiviation... more »

Federal Data Clearinghouse

Have one source of data that Fed employees can use to find out information about anyone. This could be available from our computer desktop. This source, could have various levels of security clearance, and have a system like "Clear" or "Lexis Nexis" where various information would be provided depending on the needs of the agency. This would save the agency a great deal of time, energy, efforts for verication and working... more »

Use SharePoint/InfoPath for InHouse Grant Competition Management

The Federal Government already licenses software packages such as Microsoft SharePoint and InfoPath that can be effectively used to operate and manage competitive grant application review processes. Currently, the IT infrastructure for most grant competitions relies on contractor built systems that unnecessarily cost the government millions of dollars.

Case Study:

For a recent $2 billion Recovery Act funded grant competition,... more »

WATCH HUD HOUSING APPLICANTS CLOSELY

Our agency deals with many applicants that we assist for rent and many times the HUD applicants rent out the home that HUD assists them with and we pay them rental assistance! This is not only a duplication of benefits but a waste of money. I would like to have HUD do periodic checks or have a way for our agency to check on the homes and the household compositions to avoid them getting double benefits from the government.... more »

Standards of Conduct for Low Income Section 8 Housing Assistance

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, or Section 8 housing (offered through the HUD) helps low-income individuals with rent payments. An individual can choose to live in a privately owned rental property in a better area of town and only pay about 30% of the rent. In other words a low income family can live in a good neighborhood where rent runs $1,500 a month and only pay around $450 per month. The problem occurs when... more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment.

There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted.

Mandate that... more »

Charge for scanning FOIAs and cancelled FOIAs

This agency currently does not charge for scanning FOIA information or work done on cancelled FOIAS. A person can spend hours on a FOIA that is almost complete, and will not be able to charge for any of the costs if the requester cancels before completion. If you cancel a work request with any other business, they are going to charge you for work already done. Requesters are allowed to ask for documents in electronic... more »
