The Food and Drug Administration conducts thousands of inspection each year. Inspectors put thousands of miles on Government Owned Vehicles each year. Fuel purchases could be greatly reduced by purchasing only hybrid vehicles for government fleets.
Many of the vehicles in the DOD, in my experience exclusively the military, are depended on day by day for many to perform the mission. Whether it be to drive to and from a briefing, sitting idle to watch traffic and clock speeders/ those who roll through the stop signs, to sit idle and drive crew chiefs and aircraft specialsts back and forth on the flight line as they prepare jets for their missions, the list goes on.... more »
Each department of every governmental agency has an expenditure budget dedicated to office supplies/items/furniture. The EPA’s Region 9 spends around $50,000 per year on office items. Government agencies conduct a significant amount of travel and transportation activities through private rental car companies, under travel regulations and rental terms established by GSA. GSA could establish minimum fuel economy standards that would apply to government car rentals for gasoline powered cars.
