Prohibit the use of bottled water in Congress. Mandate that glasses and pitchers be used (or re-usable water bottles). Watch CSPAN sometime and see how many 16 ounce bottles of water are all over the TV while folks are testifying or having hearings. Individual servings of bottled water are a HUGE waste of money. Congressmen refuse to be held to a higher standard, and as such, they should not and usually are not. Congress should not be alowed to take holidays off during national emergencies; fiscal or otherwise. My guess is if we had another Pearl Harbor everyone would show up. When the rehtric to the public is laced with any sort of indication that there is emergency action needed then there should be no holiday recess for congress until it is resolved. Members of Congress and the Senate should be required to participate in the Social Security System just like the rest of us they are representing. Then maybe they would take better care of it than they are now. They tend to not worry, because it doesn't affect them. There supposedly is a savings by freezing the pay of GS federal employees. If there is really a savings in doing this then there should also be a savings in cutting taxpayers' money used to pay increases given to Congressional aids. Travel expenses should also be limited. Funds from Federal taxes should not be used for campaign-related activities Congress persons or their staff.
