Veterans Eligibility; BETTER WEED OUT & FLAG INELIGIBLE Pts

We need rigorous training for frontline staff determining eligibility for health & other benefits. The VA has strict procedures for determining eligibility including what documents are acceptible. However, at least in our VISN (12), review of eligibility seems to indicate sloppy procedures. E.g. 1 pt alone who is NOT EVEN A VET was seen at least as early as 1997 on a HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY status. Once in the system,... more »

Benefits via SSA

Reality is that the system for Social Security benefits is broken and abused. There needs to be an overhaul to restore the program to what the public perceives it as, or some similar resemblance.
First and foremost is the SSI program, the more abused and costly since these recipients have never contributed. Children get benefits too easily as with a large rate of termination from age 18 evaluations. There needs to... more »

Offer early retirement at 15 years or max retirement at 20 years

Offer early retirement for service members at 15 years of service. Addtionally, max out retirement plans for 20 years of service vs. the max of 30 years of service. Too many members stay in past 20 years which hold up advancements for junior members and most of the time they are getting these huge paychecks and not doing a whole lot to contribute toward their service.

Offering early retirement with a reduced retirement... more »

Revamp Department of Veteran's Affairs Operations

Following the terrible experience with my father at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital Emergency Room/Hospital, I suggest to close all VA hospitals. Allow veterans to obtain primary health care from private, local providers using a Federally issued credit card for veteran's benefits, much like an insurance card. Current VA employees can seek employement with local hospitals and clinics if they are qualified. Controls can... more »

Cutting benefits to cut applications

If the benefits weren't so good with social security, as many people wouldn't apply. There should be a cut off point where afterward, if you haven't demonstrated a serious disability again and you haven't demonstrated you have tried to work, you can't continue recieving benefits. Focus should be in motivating people to work instead of taking an easy way out. This would lead to a drop in applications, a drop in processing... more »

Contractors -> Federal Employees

There is a huge market right now for Federal Contractors, and new companies spring up by the day to fill these federal positions. In most if not all cases these contractors are working for a third to half of what the Government is actually paying these companies for the position.

Because of this, both the individuals and the Federal Government loose money, meanwhile these contract companies are getting rich. I believe... more »

Eliminate Elective Surgeries for Inmates

I have worked in the prison system for over 10 years and I have to question why we spend hundreds of thousands of dollars performing elective surgeries on inmates that have lived with their conditions for years. We could eliminate millions of dollars and cut significant government spending by screening inmates on their initial incarceration and documenting their existing medical conditions. Why is the government responsible... more »

Get rid of Congresses Personal Jets and Other things

Right now the biggest thing that comes to my mind is Nancy Pelosi and the multi million dollar jet she had the government pay to get her so she could fly nonstop from her home state to DC, with her, her crew, and 200 reporters. Seriously, why is the government paying to transport reporters? Everytime her aircraft flys in any direction it costs the taxpayers 60,000 dollars. Why not do away with all the private aircraft,... more »
