Abolish the Penny and the Paper Dollar

It costs more to mint a penny (1.6 cents in 2009) than it is worth. It costs 32 cents to make a dollar coin, which lasts 30-50 years, unlike the paper dollar, which lasts 18-22 months. Instead of the proposal to stop minting the dollar coins [See the news report on NPR this summer documenting how few American consumers or collectors have warmed to the coins and Senator Vitter's bill (S. 1385) to halt production], the... more »

Buy components not the whole module

Inside the Individual First Aide Kit (IFAK), is several modules with one being the "minor module". The minor module consists of about 12 component parts and 3-4 are shelf life controlled. Instead of replacing the whole minor module at a cost of $19.23 as is the current practice, why not just replace the expired shelf life components inside of it. At our installation alone, all 841 IFAK are unserviceable due to shelf... more »

Over-paying outside providers for Veteran care referred by VA

When the VA refers a Veteran to a community provider for care that can’t be performed at a local or nearby VA medical center (either the service can’t be provided within the VA in a timely manner, or the service is not available at the VA medical center), the VA staff already complete a referral and authorization process, including entering an authorization for a specific service in the VA’s claims processing and payment... more »

Government Overspending

The US Governemnt pays top dollar on everything that they purchase. WHY!? We buy most things in bulk and you would think that we would get it for a cheaper price but we don't. Stop the useless overspending. I am an aircraft mechanic for the DoD and US Air Force Reserves. when we pay $250,000.00 for a winch it's getting a little ridiculous or $70,000.00 for a windshield, or even $5.00 bot a 10 cent bolt. Needless to say... more »

Stop helping everyone else and help OURSELVES!!

The US is willing to spend our hard earned tax dollars helping other countries that don't even want to help themselves. It's time to stop paying foreign aid and save that money until we can turn our debt around. Once we get our debt under control we can revisit the idea of wasting our money on other countries.

Pull paper money out of the economy/Stop printing it!!!

If my information is correct, the US Government has had trillions of dollars in cash printed with no sure way to shore up the value of the US dollar. While done early on in the whole credit debocal the inflation which would normally step in an hurt the value of our currancy was offset. Right now with the amount of paper money in the system, and banks still not loaning it out, I believe it is time for the Fed to start... more »

close Friday after Thanksgiving

Close all offices except essential personnel the day after Thanksgiving. Many people use this day and its a waste to operate with lights, energy, guards, etc... for a few people.

Make DoD Civilain LQA mirrior military entitlements

Currently DoD Civilian LQA is much higher than their Military counterparts of equivalent rank. This is due to the requirement to have DoD fall under Department of State regulations. Let the DoD control what overseas civilians get for LQA and not the Department of State. that way the DoD can operate more efficiently and save money. Currently a GS-9 makes more than a Lt Col does for off-base housing. GS-13 and higher make... more »

Replace Three Tires, Not Four

Government fleet vehicles often have in-service lives well in excess of 50,000 miles, usually requiring tires to be replaced at least one time during their service tenure. A new set of four tires can easily cost $700-$800. However, many of these vehicles carry full size spare tires on stock wheels, which are often never put into service. I suggest rotating a full size spare tire into use during the vehicle's first... more »

Eliminate Overtime Pay

Many employees "extend" work hours if they are provided with the incentive of overtime pay. Because they essentially learn to rely on this extra pay, they work slower to ensure they are able to work overtime hours. By eliminating overtime and keeping employees at salaries, the work would be much more efficiently handled. Trust me on this one, after many years working at different offices in operations and having spoken... more »

Stop minting Quarter Dollars, Mint Half Dollars instead.

Some of the benefits of doing this are: No more confusion between a quarter and a golden dollar. This means that one area of resistance to use the dollar coin is eliminated. Dollar coins have lower life cycle costs than paper one dollar bills. It takes care of a major issue in trying to eliminate the 5 cent coin. (You could make the 5 cent coin form something other than nickel but it would have to get a new nick... more »

Stop Waste Spending (Landscaping, Large TVs, Construction Projec

Spend money towards defense instead of no value added spending. Billions are being spent across DoD on unnecessary landscaping, flat screen TV’s, construction projects, etc… Create a culture were saving money is a priority instead of spending. First, visit several installations identifying wasteful spending habits (i.e. landscaping, large flat screen televisions, not needed computers, not needed construction). Many... more »

Civilian DOD Full-Time Air Reserve Technicians

I love my career in the USAF Reserves. As a full-time Air Reserve Technician the past two years we've been ordered to wear our part-time Reserve uniforms as DoD Civil Service employees daily. This is costing the USA government at 5 million dollars annually. Not to mention the yearly cash awards to other officers to maintain dress and appearance standards daily. Please consider giving this money back to the USA tax... more »
