U.S. Postal Service Efficiency and Savings

I have noticed that the mail at my office building is collected several times a day. The amount of outgoing mail is minimal. It would save money to have the mail collection reduced to once a day. The USPS should monitor the amounts of mail collected at business locations and adjust services accordingly.

Reduced Delivery of Mail

Currently the USPS deliverys mail 6 days a week to my house. The vast majority of this mail is ads or "junk" mail. I don't need to recieve this every day and would suggest that they deliver M, W, and Saturdays instead. This would reduce the number of carriers by one half.

Print receipts only upon request- use the "Nudge Theory"!!!

No matter what I mail/ship/purchase at the post office, I receive a receipt that is at least a foot long. In some cases two feet...I turn around like most everyone else there and deposit it in the trash or recycle bin. This is totally unnecessary and a HUGE waste of paper and money.

Not the mention, the receipt really doesn't serve much of a purpose. It's not like it substitutes for the other receipts you get (e.g.... more »

Eliminate Postal Service Advertising on Television

The US Postal Service is the only federal agency that handles private/ commercial shipping of packages and mail. There are private companies that offer similar services. However, the US Postal Service is not for profit and should stop all advertising on television and radio broadcasts where they have to pay for time slots. The USPS should only rely on internet advertising if even that. This would save millions of dollars... more »

Turn the US Post Office into an all inclusive Gov't Facility

that does more than deals with mail.

All Post Offices should assist with passports and other general questions. Also ATM's should be located in all Post Offices that provide lower withdrawl fees. Also a photo machine could be installed at each post office for passport photos and those photos could be printed and electronically mailed to the Dept. of State.

Transporting inter-departmental mail

I feel that mail that needs to be transported overnight to another department within public transportation commuting distance should be able to use the public transportation to send the mail. An example would be; The office in Baltimore needs to overnight a file to Washington. The Baltimore office would have a person drop off any mail to an assigned Amtrak representative or drop box. This can be done as needed since... more »

Privatize delivery of junk mail and advertisments

Dedicate postal service resources to delivering important letters and documents. Get them out of the junk mail/ad delivery business. Have private companies deliver this (with a fee tacked on for recycling services, with the fee distributed to local communities for that purpose).

Increase Postal Revenue

All Government entities and contractors paid with Government funds should be required to the use the U.S. Postal Service for express/overnight mail and package delivery. Requiring use of the U.S. Postal Service would increase revenue and keep Government funds in the Government's pocket rather than making FedEx investors rich.

Hybrid and/or Electric Vehicles for the USPS

As the operator of the largest civilian fleet of vehicles in the country, the United States Postal Service (USPS) could save money by gradually substituting its gas-powered vehicles with hybrid (gas/electric) and/or electric-only vehicles. For residential deliveries, for instance, hybrids would run on electricity alone during delivery stops, and quick runs from one residence to another. Some of the benefits from this... more »

Save on USPS, Mail Delivery only 5 days a week

The USPS would save a lot of money by only having mail delivery on Monday-Friday. I know alot of people forget about the mail being delivered on Saturdays so they don't check it until Monday anyways. Many people have gone to paying their bills online so the USPS is losing money. If they go to only delivering during the week they will see their revenue go up.

Express Mail USPS Bid for Business

Currently we are forced to utilize Federal Express for shipping packages and overnight delivery services. The United States Postal System should put forward a bid for services that will be competetive with USP and FEDEX. For years the USPS has been complaining of losing business to these competetors but has yet to secure the federal government contract to provide equal quality services as well as a reduced cost. I am... more »
