There is a lot of junk mail that people with post office boxes leave in trash or other spaces to clean-up. Provide shredders with a shute access to behind USPS large bin to shred junk mail and then it can be used to help package future boxes that need mailed. Foam peanuts are not environmentally sound, cost money, and the USPS can re-use junk mail/advertisement flyers as safe packaging alternative.
The Postal Service spends an extraordinary amount on home delivery this requires the mail couriers for delivery and the gas to cover an entire city. Moving the mailbox to the post office would reduce delivery time, reduce expenses, reduce the environmental impact, and increase security for the customer. This is done by giving an individual address one basic P.O. Box. Any larger size P.O. Box will still have their regular... more »
Put us back under Federal, eliminate the Unions, and you will save millions. With all the grievances being filed and settlements being paid the Postal Service would benefit by doing this.
I would like my mail delivered every other day or twice a week. There should extra fees for daily or special delivery.
Post offices continue to cater to people who want special stamps. Let these people order the stamps on line. It takes too much time for those who want to use the post office for other reasons to have someone going through a catalogue of stamps to pick what they want. Just give people forever stamps when buying stamps. There are too many other cutbacks at the post offices to make customers wait.
Currently, federal organizations have a specific portion of their budget which pays for postage. With the exception of a few larger packages, most parcels are shipped via US Postal Service. There is no legitimate reason why tax dollars are split between the multitude of federal agencies, when a stipend could be paid directly to USPS. My idea is to cut administrative costs, improve operations, simplify federal processes,... more »
Post Offices should be closed on Saturdays (but leave the lobbies open for mail deposit, PO Box access, and automated postage dispensing). To compensate for being closed on Saturday and to allow people who work when the PO is open during the week access to full PO services, adjust the hours of public operation to be 12p - 8p - at least for one day of the week
On all postal routes, move the mail boxes to the same side of the street. I watch the mail carrier go up my street, stopping at each house and then back down the other side stopping at each house. What a waste of time and fuel. Moving the mail boxes could be performed by a public service group like the Boy/Girl Scouts or have the prison work groups move them. The Postal Service could provide standard mail boxes/posts... more »
The idea is for the USPS to have printers that can print and collate various mail that is sent. The idea is that instead of handling, sorting, and carrying mail accross the country it basically gets e-mailed to a local post office, printed out and delivered. This isn't going to be used for all mail, but alot of bills, circulars, advertisements, etc.. could be sent with this method. Most likely makes most sense to have... more »
During the course of my undergraduate and graduate studies, I noticed that Direct Loans WASTES ALOT of paper and postage by physically by mailing monthly updates (some identical for months at a time). If you are in school for seven years that can add up. Not to mention if you get Federal assitance in your Doctoral studies. Why not make student loan communication strictly online? If we owe the Government money, I'm pretty... more »
I have had postmen steal my cc from mail, and always I find bureaucratic rudeness that is what I thought Russia was like. End the post office- it is not even a govt agency and the salaries for the post office people who are in upper and mid management simply are a huge waste of money. We have Internet and Fed Ex and UPS - I never use the postal service because they are not dependable, they are rude and they make too... more »
My suggestion is that we start utilizing our own USPS via stamps.com, get rid of these high maintenance postage meters, keep our scales, and print the postage as we need it. Since 911 we very seldom use the USPS for our mail or shipping. (Everything has to be scanned, etc.) I am told the gov't has a contract with FedEx so we pay over $5 to send a single letter instead of $.44 and the same with packages. Thank you... more »
Have gone to the post office to buy a stamp, and my receipt is about 10 to 12 inches long. We need to go green by not cutting so many trees for receipts and save unnecesary money. Just put a sign up of the information trying to be relayed.
I propose to have post offices open only 4 days a week (Mon, Tues, Thurs,Fri). Have the employees work 4 nine-hour days. (Yes, they will lose some hours - offer them paid lunch hours for those days). This will save the federal government money on everything from electricity, fuel (25% off the top)as well as a reduction in man hours.
These stamps are a waist of government money due to most of them are never used or get damaged by the humidity or temperature in our government office that in our case are many times inside of a freezer or cold warehouse. In top of that the USA Post Office personal many times do not even recognized or accept this kinds of stamps as officila due to their lack of training in this respect. I have received mail back returned... more »
