Mrs. Nancy Robertson

I would like to see each government employee across the world, including the President, give back one hour of their pay to help the government get out of this financial mess we are in. Thank you from a concerned United States citizen! P.S. I would like to see all contractors, like me, become a government employee.

Consolidation of computer equipment for new weather satellites

One network was the Developmental Network used for testing, and the other was the Operational Network. Make GSA Green Vehicles Affordable

Despite presidential mandates to improve the sustainability of federal vehicle fleets, the cost of implementation is a major obstacle. To obtain vehicles like the Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt, GSA charges agencies a substantial surcharge of $10,000 or more per vehicle in addition to the monthly lease cost. Furthermore, procuring and installing an electric vehicle charging station is equally as expensive – upwards of $15,000.... more »

Save Water - install composting toilets

Create a program to install self-contained composting toilets that use no water or electricity as an option for employees working at federal facilities. There would be some upfront cost to purchasing the toilets, but the money would go to made in the USA suppliers (e.g. http://www.sunfrost.com/composting_toilets.html). Overtime saving in water and a free supply of compost for landscaping the facility would defray the... more »

Eliminate Reimbursement for Meals when on Travel

This idea will likely not be very popular, especially for those who travel often, but I think it could offer a significant cost savings to the government. I have never understood why workers (in any organization: federal, state, or private) get reimbursed for meals when on travel. When workers are at home, they do not get reimbursed for meals, so I'm not sure why they get reimbursed when on travel (inconvenience?).... more »

Performance Targets on hiring time

The government currently loses out on hiring top candidates due to the slow pace of the process. Accordingly, the government should set performance targets for agency hiring actions requiring that the average time to fill a position improves to 45 days or less on average. Establish incentives for human capital management staff that are dependent on their hiring time performance.

Funding Innovation and Improvement

One of the principle constraints on government is the inability to fund operational improvements without congressional budgetary approval. This is functionally difficult to implement since the budget is put together over a year before action by congress. This process is hostile to innovation and development. To facilitate improvements, the President should request a 1% fund to invest in innovation, improvements, and... more »

Incentivize Employees to Save

Initiate a trial program to provide nominal bonuses to federal employees based on how much their organization saves on its annual budget. Implement the program with thresholds, so as long as an employee’s organizational unit saved 2% of their annual budget, employees would receive a 0.5% salary bonus. This program would likely have the most leverage on DOD acquisition programs, but would nonetheless help motivate employees... more »

Evaluate mail system-use stamps

The mail system within each office should be evaluated to determine if there is room for improvement. In our office, we are evaluating whether or not to keep our Pitney Bowes contract for the mail stamping machine. We spend over $600 a quarter to rent this machine and then pay for regular priced postage on top of that. Our office has less than 30 people in it and sends out limited amounts of mail. It would be more practical... more »

Add one cent onto all transactions to pay off nations's debt

Whether we like it or not, the national debt is the accumulation of the citizens as a whole. We vote the citizens in that pass laws and bills on both the national and state level. We request/demand that the programs that are currently in place are there to help others and ourselves. Therefore, the debt is our own. One way to take ownership of the debt as a nation is to add one cent onto every transaction nationwide to... more »

Program Assistant

Let Congress and the Senate pay more taxes or have their salaries cut or frozen since they cannot make a decision. Cutting back on Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid would be devastating to citizens who rely on those benefits as their only means of support and healthcare.
