SAVE Award 2011 Ideas

There should be an option for permanant career employees to work part-time. (Perhaps 4 out of 5 days a week.) The employee could pay out a little more in insurance, etc. but, would have a more family-friendly manageable schedule.

Many professional offices have Monday-Friday hours only. For some employees the higher cost of insurance, etc. may outweigh the burden of scheduling leave and juggling family responsibilities... more »

I recently went to a month-long training session out of state as part of the training for my position. I also recently graduated a very well designed, challengine online Masters of Business Administration program offered by the University of Florida, a highly accredited institution that has won awards for this specific program. Nine (9) Hour Days 4 day workweek. It will save 4 hours per week for EACH Federal employee. The employee will receive the 3 day weekend in exchange for the extra day off and the Gov't saves

Certain agencies/departments have telework policies that allow employees to telework four days a week, and then report to the office one day per week. Unfortunately, some of these agencies/departments also require ALL employees on this schedule to report to the office on the same day. A large percentage of the work that I do could be done form a remote work station. The remote work station does not have to be your home, it could also be a smaller office at a central location for a group of employees. I drive 35 minutes to work in the mornings and I would presume that many people drive more than that. Why not eliminate the comute, not to mention the cost of keeping the office running at full staff.... more »

Allow current employees to decrease hours and fly new positions with part-time status. There is a huge market of employees willing to work fewer then 40 hours a week. This will allow alternative schedules which will help agencies serve the public with appropiate staffing. Staffing people to meet the needs of the work.
