Higher-level employees, managers, supervisore, SES folks do not NEED higher-quality furniture (real oak, etc.). Make them get the same standard furniture as all government employees. Of course, they may need different furniture, or more, depending on their position, but not better.

Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region is not needed. It's created 60 free billets for the (ab)use of the Army to do ceremonial missions. It was built for homeland defense in the NCR, but has been misused. Taking a page from my Navy Nuclear Propulsion background, I believe that all government managers should be expected to conduct some kind of training in their area of expertise (or even a bit outside of it) for people who work in their organization or in adjacent organizations. This would serve to break down stove pipes as well as organizational layering, not to mention actually improving knowledge and insights all around.... more »

Have SES applicants submit one package to OPM with a resume and their answers to the ECQs. OPM could then "certify" (through an ERB process) candidates that could be considered for SES positions without the constant resubmission of these documents. It would also eliminate the considerable disparity between one ERB and another, where one board certifies that you meet the ECQ standards and another says that you don't. Applicants... more »
