Electronic ALMIS tablet

We spend hundred's of thousands of dollars each year printing out Asset Logistics Management Information system maintenance cards to review when completing maintenance we could save a good portion of that money by completing these cards electronically on a tablet type device and emailing them to summit instead of printing the card signing them and printing the again if there were any errors. It would not only save money... more »

Streamline the removal process

It takes way too much time and effort to remove an employee from federal service. The process should be updated to include threshold levels. It should be easier to remove a GS-09 with less than 3 years of service than, say, a GS-14 with 25 years of service. We need to apply the common sense rule -- it should not cost so much time and effort to remove a lower-graded person.
For example, a GS-15 (supervisor) and a high-step... more »

Reduction and Modernization

I propose that our govt move into a new era where paper decisionmaking is a thing of the past. Technology exists where secure signatures and sharing networks can bring our offices up to the year 2011. We can reduce the burden on our forests and recycling centers! We can reduce the time it takes to get a document from one decisionmaker to another by using software that allows all decisionmakers to view and sign document... more »

NO MORE AGENCY JUNK EMAIL!

Stop cluttering up work email with junk mail like 'We changed our phone number' or 'We are snowed in so we are closed today', or 'We have a job opening in Podunk'. The use of group mailing for "ALL" the agency needs to be restricted. This broadcasting of usless information clutters up everyone's email. The Agency should ban these group mailings or restrict them to the President and above. This will save countless... more »

Inefficient uniform selection/creation

I'm not asking for 1 uniform for all services, but I do ask that there be a standard in place for the approval of new uniforms for each service. The new utility uniform for the USAF was an obvious sign of incompetence that even the company hired to make the uniforms advised against (they even go so far as to apologize to airmen and detail the process on their website: http://www.tigerstripeproducts.com/airforcetiger.htm)!... more »

Refine/Consolidate the Federal Govt Security Clearance Process

Refine the Federal security clearance process by establishing (1) federal agency responsible for adjudicating all federal security clearance investigations government-wide. I recommend the entire security clearance operation be transferred to the Department of Homeland Security. Homeland Security will have direct IT access or work with various Federal agencies and local law enforcement to complete the entire adjudication... more »

Eliminate Redundant Time and Attendance Tracking Systems

Current agency personnel are required to track their time and attendance on two separate tracking systems: WebTA and and internal Excel spreadsheet that mimics WebTA. Both tracking systems provide the same accountability for time and attendance however, the WebTA system is the official tracking system used by agency.

On average it takes each employee approximately 30 minutes to complete both tracking forms. This does... more »

GovDocs: A collaborative clearance platform

Many of us spend hours a day moving paper from one office to another through the clearing process in order to build consensus and input on policy issues. Oten times we are working across agencies and across time-zones with our counterparts across the U.S. and/or at different U.S. embassies around the world.

I propose that agencies engaged in the writing clearance process have a collaborative software developed (similar... more »

Efficient Security Protocol saves $900 Million annually

Wasted productivity is a large but avoidable expense. Our current security systems serve a critical purpose, but could be more time efficient. This proposal would avoid losing more than $900 million annually of currently lost productivity while preserving security.

Proposal: Create streamlined security software that allows one to stay signed in securely to the network and to password protected programs and avoid automatic... more »

Contractor Savings Over Months and years

Issue: Break in service to Agency / due to delay in approval

Background:
There is more than anecdotal evidence that delays of re-upping Task Orders is due to:
- COTR Challenges
- Errors w/ Paperwork Submissions
- Budget Processing
- Agency Confirming need

Solution:
For existing contractors that have contracted with an agency, that are not complete with their support, the approval should be streamlined for additional... more »

Use Computers over IP/stop refresh rate

Units I have been under normally refresh their IT assets (computer towers, monitors, printers) about every three years.

The only reason it sounds that they do it is because of a warranty expiring. Many computers can be ugraded if need be and CSA's should have knowledge to replace/repair parts. Refresh for any IT assets should be five years or more.

To save additional time, money, and manpower, the entire military should... more »
