In an effort to save money by relying less on mail we are trying to use digital documents when possible. Our ability to do this is significanlty impaired by our scanners since they scan to email, via the email server, without encryption there by preventing the scanning of "personally identifiable Information". If there were automatic expiration dates on emails sent out by management/supervisors, etc., it would help clear virtual space on the computer email and drives, thus maintaining a lower memory/storage and speeding up the computer's applications.

Many agencies have a time-retention timeframe requirement for people holding onto Personally identifiable information contained in emails and old work.
