FEMA/NFIP Letters of Map Change-Delivery Options

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
FEMA engages in Floodplain Mapping for insurance rating. The Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are based on hydraulic and hydrologic studies captured at the time of the data review. The FIRMS are only as good as the data used at the time of completion. Because of this we consider updates from local government and private land owners. Depending upon the science presented as consideration for an update, the outcome of the... more »

Stop printing out our names!! And the Use of Printing Quotas

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Every time I passed by the recycling bin next to the office printer, I often see piles of paper in there that are not documents from work but rather the pages with people’s name and the document’s title. This is such a waste of ink and paper because most people just throw them away. I suggest adding an option as we print from the computer where we can choose whether we want that first page of our name and document’s title... more »

Reusable bags for inmates with diabetic snacks

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
We have diabetic inmates at my prison, each day the inmates with diabetes get a snack. The snack is for when their blood sugar drops. We handout the snacks in brown paper bags. Why don’t we give the inmates reusable bags to use for their snacks? I know it doesn’t seem like much but the bag are thrown away or use for contraband every day. We could save millions ever year. The inmates would bring the bag back every day... more »

Better use of software programs to reduce the cost of printing

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
The VA is supposed to go paperless in the future. So, why do we print the letters from MAP-D, PCGL, and RBA 2000, for the veteran’s file? These letters are all saved and available for viewing at any time. PCGL and RBA 2000 letters are in Virtual VA. Uploading MAP-D letters into Virtual VA would result in having all letters stored in one centralized location. Additionally, since we have access to the veteran’s medical... more »

paper reduction-"disappearing ink"

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Facilities should buy the printer and paper that produce documents that fade away after 16-24 hours. This paper could be re-used multiple times, reducing a huge amount of paper waste, as many times a piece of paper only contains a few lines of print and should be re-used as much as possible. Much of the information printed is only needed for a short time, but for other items such as letters, standard printers could be... more »

Go Green(er)

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
I work for the Social Security Administration. Every day I process claims through several systems and frequently the claims information is printed out, even when I don't need a printout. We waste hundreds of sheets of paper on a daily basis. For an agency that is supposed to be "paperless", I feel this is wrong. We should be given the option of whether to print or not to print on all of our systems. This would allow... more »

i am new to the federal government, coming in I heard about how green we are and how we've been working hard to reduce the number of printers and the amount of paper we use. This is an outright pack of greenwash!

Since joining I have noticed that for every 6 cubes there is a printer! The office I left had one multi-function machine for 45 people, yet my new colleagues continue to go on and on about how much paper they... more »
