Utilize email for OWCP letters instead of mail
I probably receive 10 letters a week from OWCP via the mail. Not only does this cost money, but it wastes a significant amount of time. There is absolutely no reason that someone could not email the letters to us. In addition, there is no reason why we should not be able to email things to OWCP.

Eliminate mail reminders of appointments for patients
Instead of mailing multiple reminders to veteran and military patients pateints, the organization can email or phone the appointment reminders. This will not only cut down on postal costs but paper costs too. The automated reminder system will be sent via email or phone whichever is preferred by the patient. The preference will be specified upon registration into the health system.

Revise the printed email policy
IT security policy requires every employee to print and file a paper copy of every work-related email. Requiring on and off-site electronic back-ups of email files provides better security for the records and would save the government millions of dollars per year, as well as hugely reducing paper waste from government offices. The current policy is expensive, out-dated and as non-green as possible.

Use commercially available email service
Use a commercially available email service like Gmail for government email. The change would eliminate the cost of providing Microsoft outlook or Eudora, eliminate the cost of webmail, and allow easy access to email information from any internet connected device.

Utilize long term OWCP claimants to monitor phones and email
Many of the long term OWCP claims could be eliminated by creating regional/centralized phone/email monitoring centers. Claimants could monitor 100% of the inmate phone calls and emails. This would make the employee productive and useful.
