Stop Monetary SSI Benefits to Children

The Social Security Handbook says, “The basic purpose of SSI is to assure a limited level of income to people who are aged, blind, or disabled, and have limited income and resources.” Although many children suffer from significant childhood illnesses or impairments, administering monetary benefits to a child who has not reached the legal working age in an effort to “supplement” his/her household income seems illogical.... more »

Social Security and Disability reform

There is too much fraud related to getting social security and disability benefits. For someone to receive any one of these benefits, the paperwork should be notarized and submitted with a fraud disclaimer indicating that if the information is falsified, criminal punishment will occur. This should also be signed by any doctor or educator that indicates that a person cannot work or learn due to a disability. If the... more »

Automatic Income Tax Returns for Social Security/SSI Recipients

Provide some means for carrying IRS Income Tax Returns forward from one year to the next for people who are on Social Security and/or SSI. When a person’s address and source of income has not changed the government should be able to produce the Tax Return and let the individual verify the new amounts by simply signing the form.

Simply Work Incentives

Both SSI and Social Security disability work incentives are confusing and overly complicated. It is a frequent source of overpayment in both programs.

We currently have an interface with IRS that reports quarterly wages. We should automatically use connect this information to disability recipients. If someone has 3 quarters of SGA level work, suspend their payments and send them a notice that they need to begin reporting... more »

SSI money used to support families of illegal aliens

We currently pay SSI benefits to a parent of a disabled child. The maximum amount payable is $674.00 per month.

We pay this amount to a parent even if the parent is an illegal alien who does not have a social security number.

If this parent, who does not have a social security number, has several disabled children, SSI will pay up $674.00 per month per child. There is not a maximum amount payable per family.... more »

Set aside funds to deport/relocate refugee/asylees

Currently, if you do not succeed in becoming a citizen in 7 years you lose you SSI benefits if you are an asylee or refugee. If monies are held from benefits for the purpose of relocation it would help DHS's budget. Any funds held this way could be released to the beneficiary when they attain citizen status or return to the country of origin at their own expense.

Maximum "Family Federal Benefit Rate (FBR)" for SSI receipients

Create a maximum FAMILY federal benefit rate (FBR) for SSI. This would be similar in concept to the FBR that is payable for a couple on SSI. A family FBR would "cap" the amount benefits being paid to one family that lives in the same household.

At this time a family of five (mother, father and three children) could all collect SSI if they met the medical requirements of the program. If the family has no other... more »
