Stuff We All Get

You have seen it in your unit’s storage or at a recruiting event. We give it out to visitors at trade shows or at an unit open house event.

Coffee cups, calendars, key chains, pens, challenge coins, you name it and the only thing in common is the sticker on the bottom; Made in China.

It is time to impose immediate legislation that will prohibit the purchase of foreign made items for official... more »

Locate Fed Gov Offices in DC to a Set of Locations in Va MD

Save costs on real estate and leasing fees by moving Federal offices now located in DC to a limited number of satellite government centers in the states surrounding DC. There is no reason to concentrate offices in DC. Work functions, communication needs, work products, etc. DO NOT necessitate a physical DC address. Commuting times would be decreased, quality of life would be increased, and many, many other benefits... more »

Accountability

Enforce existing accountability. Senior officials, department heads, managers, etc., should be held accountable for wastes incurred in their respective offices. Management, at all levels, could do more to reduce waste--complacency stands out here. A great many of these suggestions could be implemented at lower levels; they should never reach this forum. Group similar suggestions together and implement as a single, government... more »

Mandate that this site be uttilized

Mandate that the top 100 ideas at a minimum are forwarded to the involved agency executive for review and comment.

There are an extensive amount of valuable ideas here that may not score number one. It would be tremendous waste of effort if those below number one were not reviewed for consideration. We all have an idea or two here, we all put effort into this, what a waste if the ideas were simply deleted.

Mandate that... more »

The United States Government is the Worlds Largest Non Profit

Run it like one. We're not always busy. We're here when you need us... Pay us less. Train us to do better jobs, pay for our education, and then let us rejoin the private sector before we get a pension. Entry level US Government jobs, should be treated like the Millitary, come here, get skills, and then go do useful work. Cut management by at least 50%, it's almost all useless bureaucrats anyway. Use that money... more »

Executive Order Requiring Agencies to Reduce Paper Consumption

There is massive amount of paper waste being generated by the federal government and its employees. People print out so many things unnecessarily and also print out personal items at work. The president should issue an executive order requiring all agencies to reduce paper consumption by at least 10%. This would bring heightened awareness to the waste and make everyone think twice about whether or not they really need... more »

Eliminate New Agency Computer Program Tri-Folds

Each federal agency develops a new tr-fold when they roll-out their new, improved, or enhanced computer program. Typically, the computer programs are to support an agency function such as payroll, travel, security, IT, etc. They include information on the computer program and most of the time include the web address to the program.

Please eliminate these computer program tri-folds. They are a complete waste and... more »

Eliminating duplicated police/security services

My idea is to bring all executive branch police and security functions at federal properties under the administrative, budgetary and operational control of one federal agency, such as the Federal Protective Service.
Many federal agencies use 0083 series police officers and 0085 series security guards. To name just a few; All branches of the DoD, DIA, FBI, NIST, BIA, USPS, NPS, and the Dept of the Treasury. The department... more »

Presidential Spending

Reduce the usage of AirForce one and similar vessels in times of economical trouble. The President should not be taking unnecessary trips or vacations while most American's are looking for work. His misuse of our tax dollars are outrageous. If he needs Airforce one it should be on stand by but it should not be used as a taxi cab to accomodae his personal pleasure, especially when most American can not afford gas. Mr.... more »

Suggestions with Highest Vote Total Not Showing on Hot List

Not clear what the criteria is to show on the Hot list. Apparently it is not just having the most votes. There are a very large number of suggestions with high vote totals not showing up on any of the "hot" lists. It would appear that the program is artificially controlling which suggestions are shown and which are not. To make it worse, similar suggestions exist where the later one is on the hot list but the original... more »

Save Program Needs Fundamental Restructuring

While the concept was good, the implementation has been pretty poor. First, there is no structure to the suggestions - it is just a free for all. Suggestions should be grouped and where possible similar or like suggestions consolidated (I don't know how many I have seen on reducing travel costs and saving paper, but they are are duplicative). Next there shoulds be a specific estimate of savings if implemented (based... more »

Gut Administration, and Management.

Every organization in the government, spends way too much money on administration, and management, and we all know it. Gut the middle layers. Fire some people. The most important place to do this, unfortunately is the school system, which the federal Government has little control over. We need more competent laborers, there are a plethora of unemployed people, and instead of giving those people jobs we're wasting... more »
