Eliminate Paper Tax Processing Utilizing Treasury Lockbox Banks

While great strides have been made recently to get more folks to file online (which substantially reduces labor costs for the government), there's no reason why the remaining paper filings (of which there will always be some) couldn't be digitized by lockbox banks (or the Federal Reserve) servicing the IRS. Use Scanners - Don't mail case files - Email PDF Files

I am a revenue agent who upon completion of a case, print all necessary documents to assemble into a hard file and then mail it to my manager who then mails it to the next appropriate place for storage. Hard copy case files are created for LB&I cases and SBSE cases. These files can be quite large and will take up a lot of space to store and be expensive to mail. Email POA's instead of faxing

As I am doing this process, I realize there has to be a better way. I am currently printing a fax cover sheet to accompany a 2 page Form 2848 Power of Attorney to fax all 3 pages to the appropriate department for input. I assuming that this is actually going to a fax machine and not to someone's email which means 3 sheets of paper are going to be printed off in Ogden also. Online Taxpayer Accounts

The IRS should develop a website similar to loan or credit card agencies that allows taxpayers (individuals, businesses, payroll taxes, etc.) to create an account and login to see if and how much in taxes they still owe.
