Travelling Labs for Rural, Remote and Homeless Veterans

To reduce beneficial travel and burden on our Veterans, as well as increase the number of Veterans getting needed labs that are currently unable to develop a small fleet of equipped RV's staffed by Provider, Nurse, and Clerk/Driver to visit rural areas, KOA campgrounds, homeless shelters on a scheduled basis. Much like the idea of the bookmobile. These RV would be linked to the patients record systems and the veterans... more »

Compliance w meds n treatment required for disability rating

AADEP (American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians) says disability is bad for the recipient, work is good for everyone. Work is particularly good for mental health patients since it gives them something to get up in the morning for, some reason to get dressed and leave the house, something to think about besides themselves. We are paying people to be sick and to keep getting sicker. Require at a minimum that... more »

Create Urgent Care Clinic in all Visn's

Creating an Urgent Care Clinic that is open 12 hrs daily, regardless of whether a veteran has a primary care Dr. or is unassigned a primary care Dr., would offer help in the the problems of sending pt's back and forth from the ER to the PACTS within each facilty in each VISN. Not every Visn has this option. Our hospital would benefit greatly in many ways including;less frustration for vets, fewer walk ins in the clinics,... more »

Overhaul the VA Claim Rating Schedule to Eliminate Subjectivity

The VA has a Rating Schedule which is used on every VA Disability claim. On the Rating Schedule, some percentages for disabilities are set up for "mild" or "moderate" or "moderately severe", etc. One Rating Specialist can grant 10% whereas another can grant 20% or 30%. The Rating Schedule should be less subjective to allow for proper payments to be made to Veterans.

VA Claims-Match C&P Exam Language to Match Rating Schedule

Veterans attend C&P Examinations at VA Medical Centers to get medical evidence for a determination for disability benefits and payments.

Many times, the C&P Exam language does not match up to the VA Rating Schedule which is used to determine benefit amounts.

If the VA Medical Center had a checklist for the disability which is being examined, the examiner could determine the proper severity for evaluation.

This would... more »

There is an App for everything these days. The VA has a great website online. There are a lot of private companies that have Apps that give VA information.

The VA should develop this App to include information such as: *MyVA; *Check Status of Claim; VA Medical Center Appointment Reminder; FAQ’s; Most Popular... more »

Initial, Mid Career, and End of Service Career Counseling

The first component entails informing veterans of opportunities and programs that exist and can be beneficial to them in many ways. This starts by taking VA HR personnel and assigning them to sections of the nation where they are readily available to military bases to work with commanding officers to conduct periodic information sessions with group members. Information disseminated allows veterans to remain current on... more »

Cut costs on loans against insurance

Limit the amount of loans veterans can take out loans against their Disabled Servicemembers Veterans Insurance. Currently the system is bogged down by a very small percentage of the overall amount of veterans who have SDVI. By law the government cannot deny a veteran their money, yet, out of the over million who have it, a few hundred per year take small loans out every month in the area of less then $10 to $20. The process... more »

Veterans Eligibility; BETTER WEED OUT & FLAG INELIGIBLE Pts

We need rigorous training for frontline staff determining eligibility for health & other benefits. The VA has strict procedures for determining eligibility including what documents are acceptible. However, at least in our VISN (12), review of eligibility seems to indicate sloppy procedures. E.g. 1 pt alone who is NOT EVEN A VET was seen at least as early as 1997 on a HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY status. Once in the system,... more »

Computerized Check-Ins for VA Patients

Veterans should be able to check themselves in for their medical appointments with a computerized system.

All they would have to do is either slide their VA identification card through a slot or enter their patient information and the computer would confirm their appointment date and time and they can click a button to check-in. This would be similar to the idea of checking yourself in for your flight at the airport.... more »
