I strongly feel nurses should NOT have access to veterans service connection status (as on their face page in cprs). I feel it creates a bias as many civilian nurses are not fully educated on what it truly means to be service connected. Knowing a veteran's sc percentage does not change the type of care we give. All too often I have heard fellow nurses bring this up and say things like, "he/she doesn't look sick" or "its... more »

Money for Ideas that Save

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
This idea can be used among all federal agencies and provides continued incentive for people to come up with ideas that save the government money.
This idea would reward employees at all levels who come up with an idea that would save the money.
My suggestion is that the employee would receive a monetary reward of 10% up to $1000 for their idea if it is implemented.
The employee would have to come up with idea... more »

If u don't have time to read my idea..it's good lol NO MORE SENDING LETTERS!

Just speaking for the edu dept, we send out more letters than anyone could count e.g. 1 case: Development ltrs when we need more info from the claimant, Certificate of eligibility, award ltrs for enrollments, many correction ltrs from amendments from school hour reductions or inc, withdraws,... more »

Over-paying outside providers for Veteran care referred by VA

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
When the VA refers a Veteran to a community provider for care that can’t be performed at a local or nearby VA medical center (either the service can’t be provided within the VA in a timely manner, or the service is not available at the VA medical center), the VA staff already complete a referral and authorization process, including entering an authorization for a specific service in the VA’s claims processing and payment... more »

Overhaul the VA Claim Rating Schedule to Eliminate Subjectivity

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

The VA has a Rating Schedule which is used on every VA Disability claim. On the Rating Schedule, some percentages for disabilities are set up for "mild" or "moderate" or "moderately severe", etc. One Rating Specialist can grant 10% whereas another can grant 20% or 30%. The Rating Schedule should be less subjective to allow for proper payments to be made to Veterans.

VA Claims-Match C&P Exam Language to Match Rating Schedule

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Veterans attend C&P Examinations at VA Medical Centers to get medical evidence for a determination for disability benefits and payments.

Many times, the C&P Exam language does not match up to the VA Rating Schedule which is used to determine benefit amounts.

If the VA Medical Center had a checklist for the disability which is being examined, the examiner could determine the proper severity for evaluation.

This would... more »

Government Transparency

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
There should be 1 Web Site that shows where all Federal Tax Money is spent every year.

Just like a business, the investors (taxpayers) deserve to know how their business (government) is performing.

The expenditures should be broken down as:
Medicare/Medicaid $XXXXXXXXXXXX
Social Security $XXXXXXXXXXX
Defense Spending $XXXXXXXXXXX
etc.

The Taxpayer could click on the above category and get specifics within that category.... more »

Efficient Tort Claims Billing for Regional Counsel

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
I propose that billing for tort claims for personal injury claims not be mailed by UPS. Instead of mailing personal information and bills by UPS (which is very costly to the government), I suggested 2 printers be installed in Regional counsel offices. Bills can be printed directly to the Regional Counsel (RC) Office via a network printer. The printers would be secure, since the RC offices are secure. Also, the cost of... more »

FOIA & Attorney Claim Copy Request-Scan Paper Folders Not Copy

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Federal Claim Agencies receive many requests for claim copies. There are millions of paper claims folders.

FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) Requests involve copying a paper claim to give to the Veteran or Claimant.

Attorney Copy Requests involve copying a paper claim to give to the Attorney, Veteran or Claimant.

I suggest that we utilize scanners rather than copiers with these requests. We should scan in the paper... more »

Timely Official Travel Planning to Eliminate Increased Charges

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Thousands of Federal Employees travel everyday. There are tremendous expenditures associated with travel.

If Federal Agencies would be proactive and timely in planning for travel, the expenditures would decrease tremendously.

Often times, solicitations for travel are issued a month in advance. The employee is then alerted a month later, for example, on a Thursday that they travel out on Sunday. The airfare and hotel... more »

Adopt MANY of these suggestions

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.

I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.

Travel Pay Over Paid

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Many people are very aware of the abuse of travel pay by many veterans. Some say it should be eliminated but that will most likely not happen anytime in the near future. I am a nurse in Primary Care at a VA and witness and report this abuse frequently. Many veterans truly need help to get to their appointments and developing our own transportation system, as others suggested would also cost a great deal. For the fastest... more »
