Eliminate mail reminders of appointments for patients

Instead of mailing multiple reminders to veteran and military patients pateints, the organization can email or phone the appointment reminders. This will not only cut down on postal costs but paper costs too. The automated reminder system will be sent via email or phone whichever is preferred by the patient. The preference will be specified upon registration into the health system.

Reduce timeliness and redundancy when developing for evidence

When we receive a VA Forms 21-4142, Authorization and Consent to Release Information, we develop for the evidence. If the medical evidence on the form we are requesting is more than 7 years old we should call the doctor or facility to see if they still have the records, a lot of doctors, clinics and hospitals destroy evidence after 7 years and some after 10 years. If the VA Forms 21-4142, is for a doctor, clinic or... more »

Government Transparency

There should be 1 Web Site that shows where all Federal Tax Money is spent every year.

Just like a business, the investors (taxpayers) deserve to know how their business (government) is performing.

The expenditures should be broken down as:
Medicare/Medicaid $XXXXXXXXXXXX
Social Security $XXXXXXXXXXX
Defense Spending $XXXXXXXXXXX
etc.

The Taxpayer could click on the above category and get specifics within that category.... more »

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later.

We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing.

We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government.... more »

Regional and Area Office Site Visits by Video Teleconferencing

All Regional and Area Office Site Visits should be conducted by teleconferencing.

VA Hospital Encounters

While working here at the VA, I am in charge of ensuring that the encounters for Patient billing are entered correctly for my department. Since taking over this task the number of errors being made by the staff in this department has drastically dropped because I created how to guides and done several different educational sessions with clinicians in our department. The VA has a vast problem with these encounters and... more »

MY HEALTHY VET CAN OFFER MORE!

I think MyHealthyVet should offer links to our prep instructions for a variety of procedures - things like colonoscopy, IR procedures and I am sure many others that require some preplanning. If the vet was able to access this on the internet they would not need to come into the facility to get the instruction. This should be a pretty simple task and it could reduce the parking issues, man hours spent getting the instructions,... more »
