IMPROVE Federal law for Veterans Perference

Veterans preference was created to allow qualified veterans the ability to gain positions in the federal government after service to their country. I recommend revision of this law so that current veteran federal employees be granted the ability to apply INTERNALLY for positions, Not just EXTERNALLY. There are countless veterans passed over for positions they are more than qualified for but are not allowed to apply... more »

Money for Ideas that Save

This idea can be used among all federal agencies and provides continued incentive for people to come up with ideas that save the government money.
This idea would reward employees at all levels who come up with an idea that would save the money.
My suggestion is that the employee would receive a monetary reward of 10% up to $1000 for their idea if it is implemented.
The employee would have to come up with idea... more »

Intra-Agency Green Team

The Federal Government should establish an Intra-Agency Green Team.

Representatives from each agency can teleconference nationwide to share best automation practices, share initiatives to encourage online participation from the American public, and discuss other ideas to become more efficient.

Each Federal Agency has some good "Green" practices, but unfortunately these are not shared across the federal government... more »

Web Site Address on Every Public Correspondence

All Federal Agencies should provide their web site address on every form of correspondence with the public.

Currently, most agencies have their agency title, physical mail address, and phone number. It should be a "no brainer" to also list the web site address along with the other contact information, directly under the agency phone number.

By doing this, the American public will be able to immediately access the... more »

Shipping Items Timely to Prevent Overnight Shipping Costs

Even with advances in automation, federal agencies still need to ship out a lot of items everyday. There are deadlines established for most shipments.

Rather than waiting until the last minute to ship something, federal agencies should be mandated to ship immediately upon notification of the need for shipment.

This would save millions of federal dollars by preventing unnecessary overnight costs that many agencies incur... more »

Timely Official Travel Planning to Eliminate Increased Charges

Thousands of Federal Employees travel everyday. There are tremendous expenditures associated with travel.

If Federal Agencies would be proactive and timely in planning for travel, the expenditures would decrease tremendously.

Often times, solicitations for travel are issued a month in advance. The employee is then alerted a month later, for example, on a Thursday that they travel out on Sunday. The airfare and hotel... more »

Stop Distributing Paper Pay Stubs and Paper W-2s to Employees

In my office, a huge stack of paper pay stubs come in every 2 weeks. With the availability of the myPay web site, we should not still be distributing paper pay stubs.

The myPay web site also maintains the W-2s. There is no use in mailing out these forms each year, with the printing and shipping costs.

The Federal Government would save millions of dollars if paper pay stubs and w-2s were discontinued.

Adopt MANY of these suggestions

Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.

I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.

Revamp USAJOBS.GOV To Allow For Job Applicant Feedback

USAJOBS.GOV should be revamped.

Job applicants should not only receive the confirmation that the resume/application were sent, applicants should also be provided feedback from the HR reviewer.

The HR communication would prevent the necessity of follow-ups and simplify the Federal Government job application process, saving the Federal Government millions of dollars.

Government of the People, By the People, For the People

These words were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863. Here we are in the United States 147 years, 260 days later.

We are watching Congress. At this second, we are $14,546,716,998,177 in debt. It took me 6 seconds to type that number, and the debt raised $262,554(Over 260 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!) while I was typing.

We have to get a handle on our spending in the Federal Government.... more »

Hire the Best Candidate for Filling Federal Jobs

The Federal Government should not hire employees just because they meet a quota.

I've seen too many employees hired to meet a targeted category, who were totally unable to do the job. Some were eventually terminated, some still working.

By getting the best qualified candidates, we would cut out the waste in money used to train, and give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.

Regional and Area Office Site Visits by Video Teleconferencing

All Regional and Area Office Site Visits should be conducted by teleconferencing.

The time spent travelling, in additional to the mileage and hotels required, cost the Federal Government millions of dollars yearly.

Videoteleconferencing is a very effective method of communication and is commonly used in the private sector.

The advances in automation now allow ROs and Area Offices to see the same listings and documents... more »
