I work for the Bureau of Prisons and we currently have 217,000 inmates all of which are required to work a job. Every month we calculate pay on the computer for the inmates and every month we print pay sheets. So that is 217,000 pieces of paper every month, 2,604,000 pieces of paper every year and the number is growing. Which is just a waist of paper not including the ink... more »

Give back power with renewable power

Federal Prisons are built on huge lots of land and most facilities have enough land to be able to build solar or wind farms, and geothermal depending on the location of the facility. The Government could use these renewable energy souses to save on energy bills and give back unused energy and save even more money. This will also help the environment.

In House Promotions

Staff should receive promotions in-house whenever possible. This would elimate the several thousand dollars spent on moving a promoted person to their next assignment. In-house promotions are common place in many state agencies and have negligible negative impact on their upward advancement.
