Reduce paper costs by going to electronic databases

The cost of paper can be reduced by going to an electronic database. Currently we print and reprint a database for distribution several times a month. This takes away several man hours and uses a lot of paper. This can be reduced if we go to a computer read only file. Most of the places our database goes to have computer access anyway. Paperless creates more paper

All court documents are filed electronically in our district. When a document is filed by either the Court, the Defense, or our office (the US Attorney's Office), an email is sent to the AUSA and the support person assigned to that AUSA. The support person opens the email, prints the pleading, and then saves the electronic .pdf version of the document to the "virtual file" for that specific case. We waste so much paper... more »

Inmate Pay is a waist of $$ Paper 2.6 million copies each year

I work for the Bureau of Prisons and we currently have 217,000 inmates all of which are required to work a job. Every month we calculate pay on the computer for the inmates and every month we print pay sheets. So that is 217,000 pieces of paper every month, 2,604,000 pieces of paper every year and the number is growing. Which is just a waist of paper not including the ink... more »

Save over 2,000,000 pieces of paper annually

Every month the BOP prints a pay sheet for inmate pay. Since there is over 200,000 + inmates in the BOP, and the number is growing. All of the inmates are supposed to work while in prison that adds up to a lot of paper and ink. The pay is figured on the computer and the money is electronically deposited in the inmate trust fund/ IPP account.
