Savings on Training

The cost of training each and every employee is extremely high and I believe that there is a better, more cost efficient way of doing things. Currently, the Government sends each employee to their required training, paying for their flight, hotel and per diem. For a two week course, this can easily be $5000 per person. If there are 20 people in this class, then the cost is $100,000 plus the cost of the instructors... more »

Restructure the US Tax code and revenue collection systems

Restructure the US Tax code and revenue collection systems The Obamacare health care bill alone added some 30,000 IRS agents; their salaries alone would be millions of dollars per year and that is just the tip of the iceberg. While it is important for taxes to be collected, our current system is a drain on time, economic resources, and complicates social issues. The government should switch to a flat tax of 18%. Filing... more »

Budget planning and cuts

Throughout the time I have worked for DOD I have seen so many ways that money is being wasted.
Shops and codes have a set amount of money a year they can spend on for their budget. Some spend it all at once, which doesn't work well, because when it gets close to the end of the fiscal year, they have run out of many items and don't have the money in their budget to get more, or they have to borrow money. Then other's... more »

Auction off orders

Many service members find it difficult to be stationed at a place where they would like to be, or even just to get away from their current assignment. I would propose that for every 10 sets of orders given out one of them is opened for auction. Every set is auctioned out within the same pay grade, eliminating the inequalityof an E-8 bidding against an E-3. This would also allow members to feel as though they have some... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

Civilian DOD Full-Time Air Reserve Technicians

I love my career in the USAF Reserves. As a full-time Air Reserve Technician the past two years we've been ordered to wear our part-time Reserve uniforms as DoD Civil Service employees daily. This is costing the USA government at 5 million dollars annually. Not to mention the yearly cash awards to other officers to maintain dress and appearance standards daily. Please consider giving this money back to the USA tax... more »

Stop Waste Spending (Landscaping, Large TVs, Construction Projec

Spend money towards defense instead of no value added spending. Billions are being spent across DoD on unnecessary landscaping, flat screen TV’s, construction projects, etc… Create a culture were saving money is a priority instead of spending. First, visit several installations identifying wasteful spending habits (i.e. landscaping, large flat screen televisions, not needed computers, not needed construction). Many... more »

Make DoD Civilain LQA mirrior military entitlements

Currently DoD Civilian LQA is much higher than their Military counterparts of equivalent rank. This is due to the requirement to have DoD fall under Department of State regulations. Let the DoD control what overseas civilians get for LQA and not the Department of State. that way the DoD can operate more efficiently and save money. Currently a GS-9 makes more than a Lt Col does for off-base housing. GS-13 and higher make... more »

Government Overspending

The US Governemnt pays top dollar on everything that they purchase. WHY!? We buy most things in bulk and you would think that we would get it for a cheaper price but we don't. Stop the useless overspending. I am an aircraft mechanic for the DoD and US Air Force Reserves. when we pay $250,000.00 for a winch it's getting a little ridiculous or $70,000.00 for a windshield, or even $5.00 bot a 10 cent bolt. Needless to say... more »

Stop helping everyone else and help OURSELVES!!

The US is willing to spend our hard earned tax dollars helping other countries that don't even want to help themselves. It's time to stop paying foreign aid and save that money until we can turn our debt around. Once we get our debt under control we can revisit the idea of wasting our money on other countries.

Buy components not the whole module

Inside the Individual First Aide Kit (IFAK), is several modules with one being the "minor module". The minor module consists of about 12 component parts and 3-4 are shelf life controlled. Instead of replacing the whole minor module at a cost of $19.23 as is the current practice, why not just replace the expired shelf life components inside of it. At our installation alone, all 841 IFAK are unserviceable due to shelf... more »

Waste of Time/Money! Stop Air Force Technical Order (TODO) Progr

Immediate attention is needed to review the way the Air Force looks at Technical Orders (T.O.)! One week class, CBT and hours plus more hours spent on setting up accounts plus create an encrypted capable organizational email box. Time is money and this is defiantly a waste of money. Why??? Just to look at guidance (books) to do our job? Now they want us to buy small computers (e-tools) to replace a paper checklist…wow.... more »

Reward Organizational Thrift

On command-level annual personnel reports, include a line to document the percent spent compared to the prior commander. Use an entire line to document unusual circumstances such as major storm events which may necessate extra expenditure. Reward commanders who are thrifty (yet fully accomplish the mission) appropriately, such as by accelerating their career paths. Promote them faster than commanders who spend more... more »
