Save money, less military moves

The military ,every year moves hundreds of thousands of members just for career advancement. The taxpayer not only foots the bill for the expensive move but also in the 2-3 months of lost productivity Cut these permanent change of station moves by 2/3. Raise the time on station limit to 6 years before someone can move to another base.

Stop MIL to MIL BAH for both members

Military members that are married to other military members are essentially being paid twice to cover their housing cost. If the members live together they should only get one BAH rate for the household. Eliminating the second members BAH and giving dependant rate for the family will be adequate to cover housing cost AND save the government a bunch of money. Sadly, members today take advantage of this program and get... more »

Consolidate AF Inspections

Consolidate AF inspections (UCI, LCAP, ORI, MCCI) into 1 inspection and have 1-POC for the inspections. Also, many inspections (ORIs) are obsolete (cold war era thinking). These serve no purpose other than to have MAJCOMs and Wing Commanders get a "warm-fuzzy" that their folks could survive if a ficticious cold war were to happen.

Eliminating expiration dates on funding, reduce funding types

A lot of funding appears to be spent less wisely at the end of the fiscal year when the funds are expiring. Recommend changing the funding types (SCN, OM&N, OPN, etc.) to two types of funding. The two types of funding would be government billets funding and programs and projects funding with unlimited expiration dates for both. This will eliminate the need to spend “end of year” funding just because it is expiring.... more »

Close JFHQ-NCR

Joint Force Headquarters National Capital Region is not needed. It's created 60 free billets for the (ab)use of the Army to do ceremonial missions. It was built for homeland defense in the NCR, but has been misused. Move 20-25 positions from the JFHQ-NCR under NORTHCOM Domestic Operations as a planning cell at the Pentagon and go back to doing what the command was meant to do - plan for emergencies in the NCR. You'd eliminate... more »

Stop Waste Spending (Landscaping, Large TVs, Construction Projec

Spend money towards defense instead of no value added spending. Billions are being spent across DoD on unnecessary landscaping, flat screen TV’s, construction projects, etc… Create a culture were saving money is a priority instead of spending. First, visit several installations identifying wasteful spending habits (i.e. landscaping, large flat screen televisions, not needed computers, not needed construction). Many... more »

End "spend or lose" budgets - Save BILLIONS

Every end of the fiscal year, federal agencies rush to spend any leftover money to ensure they at least have the same budget the next year. Basically, there is a strong incentive to spend as much money as possible, resulting in terribly wasteful spending. I propose several measures be implemented to incentivize saving budget money:

1. Make sure that any established ceiling is not lowered simply due to a lack of spending.... more »

Set the thermostat to a reasonable stinkin' temperature

When I got to work this morning my office was at 68 degrees (it's supposed to reach the upper 90's today). During this summer it has only gotten to 72 degress once. I wear a hoodie every single day supplemented with a ski headband most of the time because I have an ice cold breeze hitting my ear all day. I have complained locally to deaf ears. Does anybody care about this? It's a ridiculous waste of energy and money and... more »

Buy components not the whole module

Inside the Individual First Aide Kit (IFAK), is several modules with one being the "minor module". The minor module consists of about 12 component parts and 3-4 are shelf life controlled. Instead of replacing the whole minor module at a cost of $19.23 as is the current practice, why not just replace the expired shelf life components inside of it. At our installation alone, all 841 IFAK are unserviceable due to shelf... more »

Mandatory DRMO use

The Gov., DoD in particular has a DRMO system for liquidating or reassigning used equipment. Although the idea is good, I have noticed that the DRMO is often ignored by the DoD agencies when it comes time to acquire equipment. For one example, my base waited 2+ years & spent @ $600K to acquire a new crane. My base is @ 40 mi. from a DRMO through which at least 6 apparently useable cranes went to sale by DRMO in that... more »

Solar Power

Put solar power on all military dorms, and add heating to them as well. Not all government buildings are efficient in providing solar power, but the ones that are geographically located in areas feasible should be built with solar power panels.

End Military Airlift for Inspections

HQ AMC travels to units for inspections of every flying wing in the guard and reserve, as well as Active Duty. It is customary for the unit receiving the inspection to come pick up and return the evaluators at Scott AFB in the military aircraft of that unit rather than the small inspection team of 7-10 folks flying commercial. Even at $1000 a ticket, this would be $10k total. Yet a C-5 flying from Travis AFB to Scott... more »
