Savings on Training

The cost of training each and every employee is extremely high and I believe that there is a better, more cost efficient way of doing things. Currently, the Government sends each employee to their required training, paying for their flight, hotel and per diem. For a two week course, this can easily be $5000 per person. If there are 20 people in this class, then the cost is $100,000 plus the cost of the instructors... more »

Cost Savings VS Community Outreach

There are many expensive programs within the DoD (and perhaps many other governmental organizations) that spend money with no accountable cost-benefit; they are primarily for community outreach type efforts or for supposed morale. With the difficult budgets we are all facing, suggest deletion or at least suspension of all these type programs (i.e., USAF Tops in Blue, USAF Thunderbirds, Navy Blue Angels, Army Black Knights,... more »

FEDERALLY MANDATED (4 DAY ONLY!!) WORK WEEK POLICY

Going to a 40 hour work week with four ten hours days a 10/4 schedule would allow the same amount of work to get done to save money in all kinds of ways... in energy, gas (globally), highway congestion(in CONUS), lights, heating or cooling, janitorial services, security, possibly other arease as well. We just held a recent IG audit and the auditor asked if you had 1 single thing that could improve our organization what... more »

Electronic Notebooks to replace paper, notebooks and travel

Replace the use of lab notebooks, journals, notes, texts, handouts, etc. with the use of electronic notebooks/tablets. The elimination of such items would save in paper costs as well as make databases more accessable. Tablets can also provide new programs for note-taking, presentations, databases, as well as many other applications that make things more efficient.

Another use of a the talet would be video conferencing... more »

Too much management

If you don't manage at least 8 people then you should not be a manager. I report to my boss who directly supervises 4 people. Her boss directly supervises 3 people. This goes up the chain about 7 levels (each supervising 3-6 people on average). This makes getting higher level approvals very time consuming and flow of information poor. It also provides too much justification for abundant meetings for "managers" at... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

Government Overspending

The US Governemnt pays top dollar on everything that they purchase. WHY!? We buy most things in bulk and you would think that we would get it for a cheaper price but we don't. Stop the useless overspending. I am an aircraft mechanic for the DoD and US Air Force Reserves. when we pay $250,000.00 for a winch it's getting a little ridiculous or $70,000.00 for a windshield, or even $5.00 bot a 10 cent bolt. Needless to say... more »

Stop helping everyone else and help OURSELVES!!

The US is willing to spend our hard earned tax dollars helping other countries that don't even want to help themselves. It's time to stop paying foreign aid and save that money until we can turn our debt around. Once we get our debt under control we can revisit the idea of wasting our money on other countries.

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are... more »

Reward Organizational Thrift

On command-level annual personnel reports, include a line to document the percent spent compared to the prior commander. Use an entire line to document unusual circumstances such as major storm events which may necessate extra expenditure. Reward commanders who are thrifty (yet fully accomplish the mission) appropriately, such as by accelerating their career paths. Promote them faster than commanders who spend more... more »
