Sell Naming Rights to Federal Buildings/Facilities

The Federal Government can do the same thing the sports world discovered some time ago - sell naming rights to non-major Federal Buildings/facilities. In other words, not the Pentagon, White House, Capitol, or Supreme Court (etc), but Federal Buildings on military bases and in towns across the country. Naming would have to be tasteful, for set period, without any special logos, and should include the name of any individual... more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing)

We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay... more »

Mr. Joshua Sawdey

While this might not be a way to cut wasteful spending, it is a way that I am certain would gain back millions upon millions (if not billions) for our country. Currently every contracting office for the federal government has several (if not hundreds) of expired contracts with money sitting (obligated) on them. This money is not needed for the contract anymore and could easily be gained back to be used for either other... more »

Save over $500 million annually limit exec. air travel

I have noticed over the years that there has been alot of military airlift missions from our Command. The travel is mostly going from Norfolk, VA to Washington, D.C. Which is roughly a 45 minute flight, as opposed to a 3 hour drive. That is great for time savings, but not financial savings.

I noticed some flight orders with the expenses listed for the air travel. Usually between $11K and $12K a flight, so round trip... more »

A Simple Idea That Is Easy To Implement

I propose that when military members are sent TDY they be required to share quarters or hotel rooms with one other member, providing they do not have to share the same bed, are of equal rank and the same gender.

When my unit was sent on a mission for a few weeks, we stayed at a hotel and each member got their own room which was equipped with two beds. My brother, also in my unit, was sent TDY with us and we decided to... more »

Consolidate AF Inspections

Consolidate AF inspections (UCI, LCAP, ORI, MCCI) into 1 inspection and have 1-POC for the inspections. Also, many inspections (ORIs) are obsolete (cold war era thinking). These serve no purpose other than to have MAJCOMs and Wing Commanders get a "warm-fuzzy" that their folks could survive if a ficticious cold war were to happen.

Paperless Contracting Using Existing Technology

I recommend that we use existing technology to get us to paperless contracting. Right now, there are appear to be initiatives involving large systems to get us to a paperless system. Instead, we should be utilizing existing COTS software such as the full version Adobe Acrobat (with digital signature). This software can be used to convert RFP letters, MFRs, etc from word to adobe and then signed using the adobe digital... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

Joint Information Assurance Branch

Create an Information Assurance Branch under OMB for all accreditation efforts and standards. One method will help save trillions of dollars across all agencies. Certification and Accreditation is mandatory for all DoD systems, but yet we waist billions of $$$$s accrediting the same system in different agencies because one agency wants a bigger, fancier or different color system than another. I say make a branch under... more »

Utilize Two-sided Black and White Printing

Most offices are now equipped with printers that can print on both sides of the page. However, many people do not use this feature.

I would implement a plan where the personnel responsible for IT maintenance in each organization set up default settings for printing preferences. All uses would use these settings, which would include printing two-sided and using black and white ink only. These settings could be overridden... more »

Government Overspending

The US Governemnt pays top dollar on everything that they purchase. WHY!? We buy most things in bulk and you would think that we would get it for a cheaper price but we don't. Stop the useless overspending. I am an aircraft mechanic for the DoD and US Air Force Reserves. when we pay $250,000.00 for a winch it's getting a little ridiculous or $70,000.00 for a windshield, or even $5.00 bot a 10 cent bolt. Needless to say... more »

Stop helping everyone else and help OURSELVES!!

The US is willing to spend our hard earned tax dollars helping other countries that don't even want to help themselves. It's time to stop paying foreign aid and save that money until we can turn our debt around. Once we get our debt under control we can revisit the idea of wasting our money on other countries.
