Simple Solar Idea for Military Installations

Cover the roofs of large buildings on military installations with solar panels. The enormous square footage of these roofs presents an "already-in-place" platform for solar energy generation. No additional space would be required for solar farms, wind turbines (which would be impractical due to the danger posed to flight operations), etc. Just use the space we already have. This would drastically reduce the strain... more »

Save Energy & Reduce Employee Downtime Through Smart Backups

Computer hardware and software failure may result in employee downtime and lost work. Some people mitigate this by backing up files on external hard disks. Unfortunately, backing up files can take up to several hours when the employee has more than 100 GB of data, which results in the inability to do work on the computer during that time. Computer access is critical to completing most tasks. The other option is to backup... more »

Plasma Gasification and SynGas to Diesel Overseas

Diesel is largely used to power generators and run vehicles for contingency operations in forward deployed regions (i.e., Korea). In the case of a contingency operation, it can cost as much as $400 a gallon for this fuel. It costs significantly less to reform SynGas (H+CO) into diesel. To acquire a reliable SynGas source, I recommend funding the construction of plasma gasification units in all enduring garrisons in forward... more »

The location is ideally situated for wind power and I am very encouraged to see that the Navy is in discussions with local authorities about the prospect of installing wind turbines on Navy land in Newport.
