Reduce DRMO over-documentation

Over documentation for DRMO turn ins are useless and very burdensome. Hundreds of manhours, hundreds of reprints of paper documents -- kills people and paper. When I turn in a computer that is past the design life, I should mark it somehow, remove the hard drive, and throw it in a box. I should check off a serial number to have it taken off inventory. Utilize eBay-like system for redistribution of unwanted items.

Problem, as I perceive it:

Valuable equipment that is disposed of via the Defense Reutilization Management Office (DRMO) process often results in a lost opportunity for reuse within the DOD and other government organizations. This is due to the narrow visibility given to item being disposed of. If greater visibility were given to a specific item in the DRMO process, then there would be a greater chance for reuse to occur.... more »

Mandatory DRMO use

The Gov., DoD in particular has a DRMO system for liquidating or reassigning used equipment. Although the idea is good, I have noticed that the DRMO is often ignored by the DoD agencies when it comes time to acquire equipment. For one example, my base waited 2+ years & spent @ $600K to acquire a new crane. Sell unused military property on local listing websites such as Ebay & Craigslist. There are tens of thousands of dollars sitting at many military installations at the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO). Much of the equipment is in the form of electronics.
