Single Online Education Resource

Combine the Navy, Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard online training programs into a single web-enabled entity.
Having multiple agencies and organizations manage the education of our combat personnel is inefficient and highlights the disparity and unfocused attempts the different services take on online education. It is simply a waste of time and money to break up online education into different areas for... more »

Budget planning and cuts

Throughout the time I have worked for DOD I have seen so many ways that money is being wasted.
Shops and codes have a set amount of money a year they can spend on for their budget. Some spend it all at once, which doesn't work well, because when it gets close to the end of the fiscal year, they have run out of many items and don't have the money in their budget to get more, or they have to borrow money. Then other's... more »

Stop Paying Twice for Windows

We buy computers from Dell. Each computer comes with a license from Microsoft. (Sticker with license key) We then buy an Enterprise license to install Windows (any version) on that computer. Dell sells computers without Windows. We can buy our computers without Microsoft licenses, and then install our Enterprise software. (Volume Licensing)

We never use the preinstalled version, and we never use the license key we pay... more »

Broken Budget Process in DOD

Currently within DOD money is passed down the chain based on what we call projected budget numbers, these numbers are prior year spending averaged over the last 3 years plus change in mission requests. 1. Squadron, groups and bases are shorted the next year if they fail to spend what they are given in current FY. 2. The changing missions and the multitude of different events/ trainings, exercises, competency training,... more »

Budget Incentive Plan

I work in the Air Force as a Contracting Specialist. We buy everything the AF requires in order to accomplish the mission; anything from services (i.e. removing trash), commodities (computers), construction (offices) or systems (aircraft). We deal with all the organizations' budget and try to find the best deal. The main problem that i find, and the easiest solution to save a lot of money would be providing incentive... more »

Change Policy That Incentivises Spending

Currently Federal organizations are all given annual budgets. These budgets are determined through the amount of money spent in the previous year. Thus, if the organization does not spend all of the current fiscal year's funds, the subsequent year's funds are decreased. As a result, a conspicuous incentive to spend all funds allotted for that fiscal year to retain the amount of funds for the proceeding year exists. In... more »

Refine/Consolidate the Federal Govt Security Clearance Process

Refine the Federal security clearance process by establishing (1) federal agency responsible for adjudicating all federal security clearance investigations government-wide. I recommend the entire security clearance operation be transferred to the Department of Homeland Security. Homeland Security will have direct IT access or work with various Federal agencies and local law enforcement to complete the entire adjudication... more »

End Policy of Budget Reduction for Non-Use

It is widely practiced policy in large organizations of all types to reduce a department's budget if all funds are not used in a given fiscal year. This leads to massively wasteful spending that adds little to no value to the department just to ensure their budget is not reduced the next year.

I propose to eliminate this policy, without any stipulations. Without the threat of a budget reduction, a department will only... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

End of Fiscal Year Spending

Often agencies spend money at the end of the FY so their budget won't be cut by the amount they save. Instead, as a method to cut spending, allow the agency's budget to remain at the same burn rate as previous months, but allow them to not spend as much during the last month of the fiscal year. This will, in particular, save millions in wasted flying time hours when units fly unnecessarily in order to use all their... more »

Congress, budget, debt ceiling, anonymous dialog via a SAVE like

Maybe by using a SAVE like process, Congress and the President can come to terms on a budget and work out the details of a debt ceiling negotiation in a timely manner. After all, there is advantage in not allowing anyone to have a dislike button. It forces dialog by making one write their own thoughts here and maybe start meaningful dialog. If you don't like it don't push the "like" button. But it gives you a space... more »

Joint Information Assurance Branch

Create an Information Assurance Branch under OMB for all accreditation efforts and standards. One method will help save trillions of dollars across all agencies. Certification and Accreditation is mandatory for all DoD systems, but yet we waist billions of $$$$s accrediting the same system in different agencies because one agency wants a bigger, fancier or different color system than another. I say make a branch under... more »

Government Overspending

The US Governemnt pays top dollar on everything that they purchase. WHY!? We buy most things in bulk and you would think that we would get it for a cheaper price but we don't. Stop the useless overspending. I am an aircraft mechanic for the DoD and US Air Force Reserves. when we pay $250,000.00 for a winch it's getting a little ridiculous or $70,000.00 for a windshield, or even $5.00 bot a 10 cent bolt. Needless to say... more »

Change Fiscal Spending and Add it to Evaluations

I recommend changing the military fiscal policy so that an organization can have money at the end of the fiscal year and for it to not only be ok, but also be encouraged by making it a high priority item on evaluations (OPRs/EPRs, Civ Appraisals).

I think the best way would be to let an organization keep their unspent money and top their coffer back up to their allotted budget. (I.e. an organization with that has... more »

Stop helping everyone else and help OURSELVES!!

The US is willing to spend our hard earned tax dollars helping other countries that don't even want to help themselves. It's time to stop paying foreign aid and save that money until we can turn our debt around. Once we get our debt under control we can revisit the idea of wasting our money on other countries.
