Air Force Reorganization

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Reorganize the Air Force. Drop the Numbered Air Forces. In 1944 there was a need for the Numbered Air Forces with over 2.4 million Airmen and over 80,000 aircraft and today there are only 330 thousand Airmen and 5,573 aircraft. Some Major Commands only have one Numbered Air Force and some Numbered Air Forces only have one or two Wings. With current technology and size of the Air Force the Numbered Air Force is a major... more »

Save money, less military moves

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

The military ,every year moves hundreds of thousands of members just for career advancement. The taxpayer not only foots the bill for the expensive move but also in the 2-3 months of lost productivity Cut these permanent change of station moves by 2/3. Raise the time on station limit to 6 years before someone can move to another base.

Combine IG Inspection Exercises with Real World Deployments

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Our unit has spent millions of dollars in time and money preparing to "pretend" to go to war so that AF/IG can come and certfiy our ability to go to war. We have been deployed 5 times since September 11, 2001 and as soon as our inspection is over we will start preparting for our 6th. If the IG would just come and inspect us while we realy go to war that would save millions of hours and dollars! This is being done in... more »

Tops in Blue

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
With all the great singers, comedians, actors, and so on giving up their time to come visit us in the AOR the Air Forces Tops in Blue seems like a massive waste of resources. Just the logistics, such as fuel for the aircraft to move them around the world has to be a huge burden on the military budget. Most people I know don't even bother to go see them unless its a "mandatory function." I think these resources could be... more »

USAF Dining Facility

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Get rid of USAF Dining Facilities that lose money every year and require personnel that we pay wages and benefits to and replace them all with private companies that would pay the government to lease their operating spaces as well as utilities. For all members on the meal card, give them Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) and deduct their accounts each time they purchase meals by how much they spend on the meal. Instead... more »

Unit Compliance Inspection

Community Member kudos icon + Community member

All additional duty programs should be maintained using Microsoft Sharepoint where they can be accessed via the web from anywhere in the world. A large portion of the UCI team could stay in one location and inspect additional duty programs from there. Only a small team would have to deploy to inspect physical location.

A Simple Idea That Is Easy To Implement

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
I propose that when military members are sent TDY they be required to share quarters or hotel rooms with one other member, providing they do not have to share the same bed, are of equal rank and the same gender.

When my unit was sent on a mission for a few weeks, we stayed at a hotel and each member got their own room which was equipped with two beds. My brother, also in my unit, was sent TDY with us and we decided to... more »

reduce waste in Air Force global air evac mission

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
I am currently serving as a CCATT physician doing global air evac for the Air Force. I am shocked at the total insensitivity to cost when missions are planned. Many times a C 17 with five crew and as many as 12 medical staff will leave Andrews AFB with a single patient when there is no medical reason that the evacuation could not have been delayed until a reasonable number of patients had accumulated that needed to go... more »

Eliminate Air Force Linguists Receiving iPads

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
It has been announced that all Air Force linguists will be receiving iPads for their individual home studies related to their language(s). Previously, they were issued iPods to do the same. I can understand receiving a device that you can listen to linguistics, but to issue iPads at the super-high costs is an utter waste of DoD funds! The current iPods are not even used by the linguists for the purpose intended. To... more »

F-22/F-35 maintenance cost

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Right now the F-22 is the most dangerous jet fighter out there. It can go up against a dozen F-15s and F-16s and shoots them all down; it has yet to fight anyone else. It could be the stealth capability of the aircraft or its advanced weapons system that give it the edge. I propose this, take two F-22s and strip all its stealth coating from them and paint them F-15E model gray(118). Fly it at the next Red Flag and... more »

Get Rid of Air Force RODEO

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
In the Air Force we have this event called a RODEO it's a week long to showcase how fast teams from various bases can complete various activities. The main focus is how fast pilots can take off, land and perform different maneuvers. They say "this competition focuses on improving our worldwide air mobility forces' professional core abilities." They also claim it's for morale. Not everyone gets to compete, they take small... more »

Save $1.4 Billion in contracts, Eliminate mandatory PT sessions!

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
Eliminate mandatory PT sessions. On average 2 hours per day, 3 times a week, 52 weeks a year is given to every AF member to maintain fitness levels. By eliminating this time the Air Force would reclaim a low estimated 98,779,200 man hours annually. This figure does not include savings from medical bills from injuries, and man-hours wasted by USAF safety offices investigating sprained ankles and knee injuries.

High Effiency Hand Dryers

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
High Efficiency hand dryers should be required by all federal agencies in order to save significant amounts of money on janitorial services contracts as well as maintain compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The use of automatic hand dryers can significantly reduce the amount of paper towels used in public restrooms, which can lead to significant reductions in operating cost, waste, and the overall impact... more »

Eliminate 16th Weather Squadron

Community Member kudos icon + Community member
The 16th Weather Squadron was reactivated in 2009 under the 2nd Weather Group, Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA). It is currently performing duplicate duties and tasks which is wasting goverment funds and personnel. This squadron is replicating work that is already under contract, paid for, and out in the field and under continuous development. Not only are they replicating existing paid for functionality, they have... more »
