Stop Auctioning New Items Needed Elsewhere in DoD

DoD continues to auction off many new items that could be used elsewhere in DoD. Recently, I have seen new uniforms, field equipment, insignia, and flags, to name just a few, being auctioned off for pennies on the dollar by one of the property disposal offices. Each was new and current issue. In some cases they were still in their original factory packaging. Procedures need to be put into place and enforced to ensure... more »

The Government continues to be overcharged

Certain components aboard our newer ships (specifically, submarines) are significantly overpriced - standard titanium ball and seat kits for standard valves are priced at over $190,000.00 - simply due to the fact that they are tied to a specific class of boat. Unacceptable. The exact same valve is avalable for other classes of boat for $4600.00. This is significant waste and must be addressed. This is a classic case... more »

Save billions by using military instead of contractors

The Government pays contractors billions of dollars to do installation projects that could be accomplaished by assets that are already in place! I work in the Telecommunications field and have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan to install communications on bases there. I also went to Iraq for 1 year as a contractor. I made more money in the one year as a contractor (over 170k) than I did the other 2 combined! And... more »

Civilian DOD Full-Time Air Reserve Technicians

I love my career in the USAF Reserves. As a full-time Air Reserve Technician the past two years we've been ordered to wear our part-time Reserve uniforms as DoD Civil Service employees daily. This is costing the USA government at 5 million dollars annually. Not to mention the yearly cash awards to other officers to maintain dress and appearance standards daily. Please consider giving this money back to the USA tax... more »

OHA to BAH System for OCONUS

All OHA needs to switch to the BAH system. This would drive the OCONUS housing market to be more competitive, with massive benefits to the Air Force, many benefits to the service members, and even, to a lesser degree, some benefits to the local community. Members have absolutely no incentive for saving the Government money under the OHA system.

SAVE MILLIONS PER YEAR BY ELIMINATING WASTED BAH!

There are over 30K mil couples (one mil member married to another) on active duty in the USAF. Both spouses are receiving untaxed Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). One of the member’s is receiving BAH at the “single” rate (i.e. they have a spouse and/or child) rate, while the other is also receiving BAH at the “single” rate. This is obviously necessary, if they are stationed in separate locations. However, if they are... more »

Cut niceties

For example, a co-worker recommended we send out our organization's information, to the 140+ personnel who were coming to visit, in an electronic document. Our leadership didn't like that idea and instead we spent more than $2,000 on organizational binders, not including the man-hours that went into creating the binders.

We shouldn’t be buying niceties when we are in debt, i.e., pretty pens with the government funds... more »
