Simple Computer Maintenance

Clean dust out of computer heat sinks. Run defragmentation and error check programs on hard drives.

 

My agency’s computer systems are grinding to a halt while we wait for new systems (and corresponding funding). New life can be breathed into existing system by performing simple common sense maintenance. CPU power can be improved by simply cleaning out six years worth of dust from the CPU heat sink.

Reduce travel for awards ceremonies

My idea is for federal agencies to conduct awards ceremonies at their home facilities, rather than flying employees to the Washington DC area for awards ceremonies.

Since I became a federal employee, I have received two awards for which I was invited to fly to Washington DC for a ceremony; the ceremonies were each attended by dozens of other award recipients from around the country as well as a guest for each employee.... more »

Incentivize Employees to Save

Initiate a trial program to provide nominal bonuses to federal employees based on how much their organization saves on its annual budget. Implement the program with thresholds, so as long as an employee’s organizational unit saved 2% of their annual budget, employees would receive a 0.5% salary bonus. This program would likely have the most leverage on DOD acquisition programs, but would nonetheless help motivate employees... more »
