Save on Postage Costs

Each day we send letters via certified mail in order to track the delivery or failed delivery of certain critical documents. However, it appears that the certified mail cost per letter is higher then the cost to send the same material via the private contract carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.) under currently negoitiated contracts. These contract carriers are able to provide the same level of tracking services. Additionally,... more »

retired alien file access from Federal Records Center

When a field office or service center retires an alien file to the Federal Records Center, it is because this file is not active nor expected to be of use. The jurisdiction for these files remains with the office that retired them, and I believe there is a financial reason for this - rent for the storage space. The issue is when a field office other than the retiring office needs the file, the file first needs to be... more »

Postage and Shipping Savings

Various components of the federal government utilize UPS, Federal Express (and possibly still DHL?) for shipping of files and documents while the US Postal Service continues to languish financially. A technique to promote sustainability and cost... more »

Instead, these reports and exhibits could... more »

Reduce Postage Costs

We frequently have to send Veterans files to the Bureau of Veterans Affairs in Washington DC for appeals review. The files contain anywhere from 1 folder to as many as 25. Total shipping weight may be anywhere from 2 ibs to as much as 100 lbs.

In most cases, once we receive notice from the BVA to send a particular case, we have up to 10 business days to get the file to BVA. We usually send the files via UPS with... more »

Leverage US Postal Service – Save Money

Why are we not using the US Postal Service?

Why are we using UPS and FedEx to ship packages, when we have the postal service that is perfectly capable to handle our needs?

Not only will using the US Postal Service save the government money, but I believe that the US Postal Service will do an even better job than their commercial competitors that we are currently using.
