Institutions print out call-outs / change sheets for inmates to view every day. One copy may contain up to 25 pages of entries. As many as 75 copies are made each day for posting in various areas for inmates to read. This accounts for as much as 13125 pages of printed material for one week at one institution. Allow the donation of the value of excess annual leave directly to deficit reduction. Employees could elect to donate their excess annual leave. Also, the value of all lost annual leave could be used to reduce the federal deficit.

If my information is correct, the US Government has had trillions of dollars in cash printed with no sure way to shore up the value of the US dollar. While done early on in the whole credit debocal the inflation which would normally step in an hurt the value of our currancy was offset. Since we are already preparing the Veterans “Claim files” for copying when requested, why not scan the file instead. Scanned files can be put into virtual temporary folders then saved as a PDF on CD’s. The 2 directions you can use this is once the files has been scanned you can keep 1 disk in a protective envelope with the date scanned to keep in the “C-file”. When the VA refers a Veteran to a community provider for care that can’t be performed at a local or nearby VA medical center (either the service can’t be provided within the VA in a timely manner, or the service is not available at the VA medical center), the VA staff already complete a referral and authorization process, including entering an authorization for a specific service in the VA’s claims processing and payment... more »

We are an industrial NATION!! Let's end the denial stage and start acting like it! There is a way to be an industrial leader and still be environmentally smart about it! Can we please end all the fraud waste and abuse that is being generated by this idea of GREEN energy!? If the commercial sector wants to pursue these energy sources , then let it!! This is an example of a government program that doesn't work. The civilian can and does do it better so lets just put this wounded animal out of it's misery.

All OHA needs to switch to the BAH system. This would drive the OCONUS housing market to be more competitive, with massive benefits to the Air Force, many benefits to the service members, and even, to a lesser degree, some benefits to the local community. Members have absolutely no incentive for saving the Government money under the OHA system.

If we are going to pay people who are unemployed, why don't we get some work out of them!? If nothing else, maybe there can be a minimum amount of community service required to collect these benifits! Just think of all the community projects that could be accomplished by all these millions of people! Don't put limits on who we can purchase from. You give us this tiny list with a few vendors. They can charge us outrageous sums for stuff I could get for 70% less on Amazon or some other online retailer or even at my own onsite retail store.
In my service, I needed to buy HDMI cables for 12 TVs... they were almost 20.00 apiece. Amazon was having a sale for same quality and length cords for .98 plus 3.98 S&H. I could have... more »

Landscaping, such as flower bed and shrub plantings, are expensive to plant and much more expensive to maintain in a sightly manner. I suggest the government stop wasting money on landscaping. If landscaping (installation and maintenance) was eliminated from government contracts, $$Million$$ would be saved. Areas such as the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, National Monuments and Parks would be exempt. Included... more »

In the fall, the facilities workers at my agency use leafblowers to clean up the outside of our building. These leafblowers are not only expensive to buy (or rent) and to repair, but they waste energy and contribute to both air pollution and noise pollution.

Why not replace those leafblowers with good old-fashioned rakes? Rakes are less wasteful, not just when they're being used, but also when they're being manufactured.... more »

True savings will come from the bottom up, however those savings will be irrelevant if Agency managers are forced to make unnecessary purchases at the end of the year on a use or lose budget.

This theory isn’t new, it’s basic economics --- No manager wants to cut their own budget just to risk penalization for being over budget the following year.

Why not adopt MANY of these suggestions? Many of these are legitimate money-saving suggestions for the Federal Government.

 

I suggest adopting as many of these as possible to give the American Taxpayers the Federal Government that they expect and deserve.
