Span of Control

Insist that supervisors be individuals who have a minimum of 5-6 individuals reporting directly to them. Reduce the number of supervisors where this span of control isn't achievable and save money by having fewer and less feather bedding. My new supervisor is implementing an arrangement where he has only 3 people reporting directly to him --- this pushes staff further away from him and dilutes the direct first level employee... more »

Span of Control for all Agencies & GS15 & 14s Limited

Our Agency has approx. 227 employees. All numbers are close but approx. GS15 - 8; GS14 - 17; Directors - 8; Deputy Directors - 4 with some open positions; Managers/Chiefs=15 (GS15 & GS14); # of team leaders=8 (GS13). There is 1 small groups of GS6 - 12, most all other staff is GS11 and above. My suggestion is the span of control for a GS15 should be atleast 100 employees; GS14 manager should have a minimum of 30 staff;... more »
