Congressmen should not be allowed to receive a congressional retirement. They shouldn't serve for long period of times, but should return to private life after one or two terms. We need congress to represent the people, not themselves.
House passed Cut, Cap and Balance, and then the Senate tabled it. Why? The Senate has NO PLAN to deal with the debt crisis. Stop wasting time and untable the bill and pass it NOW! This will save $Trillions over the years, and bring fiscal responsibility finally to the federal gov.
They should only be eligible for retirement after serving for at least 20 years like our military members have to do. Of course this would also be predicated on their good behavior. By this I mean that they should get tossed if they break the law just like our service members.
Under archaic cloture and filibuster rules, an individual Senator or minority group of Senators can thwart the will of the majority. Restore democratic principles to the Senate by using 51% votes for all Senate business.
