It would be beneficial and cost-saving for SSA to have a space for the beneficiary to type/write what the payment is for - when they write a check to SSA. For example -this check is to pay for my child's overpayment, or for my SSI overpayment, or my Medicare overpayment, or a previous representative payee is returning funds. we have a significant amount of overpayment within the agency mainly due to claimants working and not reporting it. some people know how to work the system, some are repeat offenders and some really don't understand. for those who continue to get overpaid and abuse the system, knowing the the agency will take a repayment agreeement that will sometimes ensure that they will never repay this money, there should be harsher... more »
