Mandate Deliquent Federal Tax Pymts as Condition of Employment

"Nearly 100,00 federal civilian employees owed $1 billion in unpaid federal income taxes in 2009, according to the IRS. The number of delinquent federal employees has remained consistent since 2004, but the amount owed has soared nearly 70 percent from $600 million to $1 billion."

While the The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has passed a bill, why wait for it to be further voted on? Why not have the... more »

Training

I was an instructor for the IRS last year. I was given an electronic course to "teach" on Identity Theft. I think we would all agree this is an important subject. I was allowed one hour for my students to work through an online course. The hour was not even enough time for them to read the material. It's no wonder these victims feel that we have no idea how to help them. It's because our employees are poorly prepared.... more »

Tax Fraud

I work for the IRS. Every day I see accounts that, because of my training, I can easily see are involved in fraud. I also get taxpayers & preparers who admit to me over the phone that the SSN they are using was bought, stolen, etc. You think there would be a way for me to report this to someone in my agency, wouldn't you? You would be wrong.

I have been told that I can submit a 3949-A, an Information Referral form,... more »

Flat Tax and Reduce the IRS

Create a flat tax for everyone with no loop holes, exemptions, or tax breaks.

Reduce the size of the IRS by at least one half of current staffing, associated offices, and vehicles.

This would create a vast resource of monies for government and remove the associated bureaucracies that weigh this great nation down. It would be a very positive step in getting our nation out of the massive debt crisis.

Online IRS account

I don't understand why I am mailing in documents that the IRS has already received from my banks, jobs, and etc. Why not allow individuals and companies to login to their account and see what documents the IRS has already received? Then permit them to upload the documents that are needed. Why mail in a document the IRS already has?

Ask callers if we can send documents/brochures electronically

When we receive calls via the toll free number or at an SSA office, we send out a paper letter, reminding them of their appointment time if they made an appointment. In other instances, we send out big paper booklets providing information with close out letters. Why not ask the caller to provide an email address as an alternative, and they can receive the information via email instead? We can save on mailing costs and... more »

Going paperless: W4-V requests

SSA Policy GN 02410.017 requires that an IRS form W4-v (request for voluntary tax withholding) be filled out before SSA can process a VTW request. SSA then is instructed to destroy the form and not retain record of the document. I believe it would be more advantageous to the agency if the request for VTW could be done verbally and attested, rather than requiring a paper document that is not retained. This change could... more »

Eliminate Fiscal Years/IRS -- Save Billions

The majority of the spending in the procurement industry is done in the last three months of the fiscal year due to the arbitrary use-or-lose budget imposed by the IRS. As a contracting specialist I see customers repetedly purchasing items they do not need (replacing working items, adding unnecessary items, etc.), senselessly spending billions so that their unit will have a sufficient budget the next year should they... more »

Income tax, NO! FairTax, YES!

Americans--that is to say, law-abiding Americans--spend collectively millions of hours each year preparing to pay their income taxes. Imagine if that massive human capital was instead engaged in activity which contributes to the economy instead of feeding a bloated government bureaucracy. April 15 would be just another day of the year. It's time to repeal the 16th Amendment and implement the FairTax. No more filing. No... more »

Federal Income Tax

Most if not all American's hate paying federal income tax and would love to eliminate federal tax, but what is the answer?
The answer is to establish a federal lottery commission similar to what most states have such as the State of Texas. This would require the establishment of a Federal Lottery Commission to manage and oversee this effort. Most individuals would argue that this establishes another federal agency requiring... more »

Restructure Civilian PCS Travel Payments

Currently the PCS Travel function for Civilians is extremely overtaxed. Most of the travel is paid for by the civilian itself (already taxed money) and reimbursed at a later date. This reimbursement has taxes withheld just like a regular paycheck. Then every year come March & April the DoD-DFAS Civilian PCS Travel Department must spend thousands of man hours processing a particular claim called the "RITA claim."... more »

Legislative Branch

W2 - F1099, F1098

Establish a IRS tax law requirement that these forms MUST BE FILED electronically by everyone. Make the 1099 and 1098 forms accessable to all employers via the internet FREE if POSSIBLE. This opens the door to allow IRS to internally verify SSN's ON THE FLY which saves millions and would significantly reduce fraudulent returns be filed.
